The audio interface will take care of that. Does it mean that any sample rate is good for recording external instruments?
What about saturating filters you're recording on 48K project? Look, I'm not confused. I just wanna know what is your pracice with recording analog instruments. And thank you all btw.

And I'm not thinking you're stupid. I never did, and you don't know what I think.
    I didn't mention cache, I mentioned catching I.E. capturing.

Well please listen to the pros that you have asked, and that have answered you.
There is a reason why you ask a question.
And when all answers point to the same thing, there is also a reason.

Please observe the rule against multi-posting, and merge your comments in future.

The converter will take a finite amount of time to respond to an incoming signal. If this reaction time is slow, the transient of the signal will be smeared and introduce intermodulation distortion. Since we determine most of the information about a sound within the first 10ms it will affect the overall quality of the sound, making it all the more difficult to sit/position in a mix.

Also, most inexpensive converters suffer from poor timing accuracy. A professional interface typically clocks at +/- 20psec whereas the cheaper interfaces often exceed +/-2 nsec. These introduce timing errors that can increase at higher sampling rates resulting in phase modulation errors that equates to a loss of high and low-frequency detail alongside loss of midrange and transient definition.

Unless you're using a professional-grade interface, recording at 44.1kHz 24-bit is more than sufficient, particularly for synthesizers.

The fun part is the way someone is treating you. Just because I'm asking opinions on recording external instruments doesn't mean that I have to waste my time on shit I've been through in my 20 years experience with DAW's.
I want to know about people who are involved in the particular question.

You are. And we have answered.
You have just 20 years experience, but I guess the fact you are asking is because you need to know something.
I don't understand. And I don't know why you are quoting the same comment of mine again. You chose to respond to it once already.

Infinite time to respond but reaction is slow? Sounds interesting.

    Infinite time reaction?
Phase modulation is the problem which has nothing to do with expansive gear. It's mathematics.

Are you saying that there is nothing I can gain with higher sampling rates if not expansive?

Phase modulation distortion is a result of jitter, that is a direct result of varying time intervals from an A/D converter. It has everything to do with gear.

And I wrote finite, not infinite. if you're unable to determine the difference between those words then my advice is just to record whatever you want into whatever you have, using whatever sample rate you like. Have fun.

Ah yes. This actually means 6 of us have all answered, so we use the word "we".

Have you noticed I explained an answer to your question?
I only said that "we" all gave you the same answer.
I have never been in the forum "Working with Sound" before.

Can you provide a test signal recorded through both interfaces so we can check ourselves if the transient is smeared and exhibits loss in the higher/lower frequencies (and less air)? Because I can smell bullshit that nulls perfectly when actually tested here.

Guys, you get it all wrong: any outboard gear must be played without a computer and recorded on tape.
Is it possible that I always have to explain everything to you?

Perfect nulling from audio recorded into a $2000 interface vs a $100 is complete and utter bullshit. I know that much.

I don't have to provide any evidence, you can believe whatever you want. I mean, we only use expensive interfaces in studios to show off, we could just use a couple of Focusrite interfaces because they all perfectly null.

While I'm at it, all this "quantum converters" is complete bullshit, our Avocet sounds exactly the same as a Mackie Big Knob, and transient preservation through reactance rates of hardware is all just bullshit. In fact, budget and professional converters are exactly the same, just with different pricing and packaging to rip us all off.

Then you're talking out of your ass. Have you tested the difference? Is there any reason for you believing it is better, or was the logo just prettier and you must be right?
Again, can we have the same audio from "quantum converters" or Avocet and Big Knob so we can compare the "transient preservation through reactance rates of hardware"? Have you tested just how much "soundstage" and "clarity" your fancy gear adds? Have you compared in a A/B blind test if the improvement is proportional to the price difference? Yeah, thought so.
