The problem with this vintage treasure is that it worns out if you use it, and it worns out if you DON'T use it, and the older the gear is, the bigger this effect is.

TONTO took several years of maintenance before it was ready to demo again, and in comparison was just a little portion of XL's gear.
Jay Kay in Automaton spent quite a resource to recalibrate the analogue synths.

It takes a lot of effort and MONEY to keep in proper shape all these gears, and, try to deny it, with modern music production is far more (cost) effective digital domain, faster, repeatable, and, most of all, NO ONE will care if it's done with a PC or MAC or a 2000$ monthly serviced 100kg CS-80.

BTW very few people (none actually) will be able to recognize the difference, especially in the mix.
If they do, it's because of clicks and pops and crackling of capacitors and sliders, it means that a non serviced synth was used.
    Enjoy the real vintage.

What a big step backwards: from 4 studios with 100 sqm each and vast equipment to a Bedroom producer like most of us.
Now I believe he has serious problems! May it be moneywise or - more likely - because of a new spouse...

maybe in room treatment but thats it...did you not see how i laughed when he mentioned he has sampled the drum anyway..he had enough years to sample the shit out of all his gear
when he would need money he would not doing it like this...

when some of us would buy his 4 studios like they are we would need a year to get into music with such huge and complex set up , maybe the complex est and biggest set up ever build.

All I have to say is that whoever is running the sales for him is one cheap bastard. I already purchased one item, have 3 offers pending and getting no replies. It seems like they want and expect the full asking price. BTW, all my offers are 85%-90% of asking price. I think the madafakar in charge of the sales is Russian.

It's not that simple. He had 4 big studios so far and didn't work there alone, but with some employees. His machine room alone comprised around 20 servers. You don't give up such a complex setup without need. Years of work went into it. And now you want to fit it all into 40 square meters? That's not a serious step backwards?
Nobody can tell me that this is done without any internal or external constraints. Whatever that is, e.g. burnout, money, new girlfriend/wife....

    From 5:48 on

I don't believe that he sampled all these devices that are now for sale. He just didn't have the time. In order to be able to pay for his money-burn-rate and this exxxxtremely extensive studios, he and his employees had so much to do that they certainly couldn't occupy themselves with it as well. As you said, his studios were highly complex. Just managing all the servers should keep an employee busy full time.

However, such people are not like us. When we earn much money we would put something aside to have it for bad times. They in contrast earn say $10 million and think it's going to go on and on, so they strain themselves way beyond any limit and then when something comes up, the whole construct collapses.

In his current videos, too, the man seems anything but normal to me. He is so agitated as hell and that it gives me the impression that he has serious problems.

But that's all just a guess. Of course I can also be completely wrong.

So, you think he has financial problems?

It is funny to not be able to believe that simple setups are more than enough to make music.
With just a midi keyboard and laptop, you can be the next Mozart, but why are there no modern Mozarts today even in big studios? Music is about knowledge and skill, not about gear.
