I've been listening to some hours-long meditative music videos on YouTube. What I'm trying to figure out is how much of the music was actually played and where the loop starts. Is there a way to do that in some more automated way? I was thinking that there may be a tool that can be given a sample of the first 5-10 seconds that can then search through the rest of the file and find a match.

Any ideas?

Zooming the waveform and looking? Thats what I do many times when editing or sampling loop beat

 

Of course, or what I've been doing, intently listening The problem is that these are performances that probably range in the five to twenty-minute range, they're not short loops.

 

That shouldn't be a problem if you do what Legotron said.
If there is silence after narration before the music, would it be possible to search for zero points?
Other than that, visually in a wave editor.

 

I reckon your best bet is combining your ear with what these guys have said. If you use a spectral analyser, like RX7 or 8, you might be able to see any obvious repetitions easier.
