To me that sounds nothing at all like a talk box because the lack of emotive aspect when the shape of your mouth informs the tone of the output signal. Frampton's use of the box begins at 5:50. His vocal starts then and his lead guitar a bit after.

    Amazing!
the days when they used to be real musicians with real skills playing on real instruments, singing autotune free and everything sounded amazing on real gear that was made in usa, those times are long gone. unfortunately, today the "market" has decided otherwise.

LOL the usa gear. I really hope that the equipment will be cheaper and of better quality regardless of the origin. USA its not synonymous of quality. Maybe 50 years ago, but now you can have better gear from even my own country or China like Klark Teknik.
    fuck your patriotism

Why did you remove your audio example? This thread is up my alley, I am also about to pull the trigger on an MXR & am going for more of a daft punk talkbox sound.

Patriotism and prejudice, beside infinite greed, lack of empathy, narcissism, and vanity are the cancer of humanity. Agreed.

Otherwise, I agree with what you said, Moleman. Modern pop music lacks that little bit of "feelings". It's more of a consequence of what I said earlier, than just the way modern pop music should be.

But there is always great music being made, too, as well as shitty. When you focus on the pop scene then you get a feeling that modern pop music is crap, but pop music has always been crap, just maybe a little less crap in those times than these days.

I'll agree with everything Moleman said except the made in the USA bit, that there are no more real musicians playing real music, that all musicians are are using autotune software, everything back in the day sounded amazing and that those days are long gone. Today is yesterday's tomorrow, how I pine for that day.

I have an Electro-Harmonix Golden Throat Deluxe it has a 15 watt Amplifier built in the case, I bought it in the early 70's because I liked the way it sounded when I heard Jeff Beck using one, I hardly used mine because the vibrations hurt my teeth and jaws. I put it away as a keepsake, I even have the original box it came in. I saw one on Reverb but it is filthy, rusty and scratched and is selling for 351.89 GBP + S+H, apparently they are now a rarity from E-H, and mine is in mint condition so I'll put it up for sale after the scamdemic. here's a picture of the one on reverb

It is quite easy to build a talk box, just google it, if not I'll sell you my mint E-H original for a non negociable but fair price.

haha i wouldn't have thought by saying made in usa would butthurt to this point some of your sorry assed minds, i have said made in usa because i'm a vintage gear fan (mostly american guitars and amps) and iconic rock guitars and gear were invented there, and definitely yes they are all +50years old, in my collection of guitars the youngest one is of 1981. but since this button pusher / ableton kid is pleased with any sounding trash market feeds him with and is unable to find a suitable sounding talkbox, thats up to him. And btw, i'm not even an american

ps: have just checked what Klark Teknik is, their most successfull gear appears tobe compressors based on the iconic La2a and the 1176LN (both were engineered and invented in the usa +50 years ago), they just do knock offs and invents nothing new. "great!" once again, the market has decided so.

Don’t believe you. But if true, pretty mind blowing. I played talkbox many years. Mind sharing an audio demo?

I have tried all these virtual emulations: no way. If you are looking for the talkbox sound I recommend you buy a REAL talkbox. The sensational discovery then, is to understand that it requires you to play it as an instrument, there is a technique to learn. It's fun, and totally analog: no computer involved.
    This is my model ($170):

Recently a guy invented this collar-talkbox, it works with an app or keyboard. I've never tried it but it seems an interesting idea (and also a bit expensive: $499)

This weird sound always intrigued me: as a child I had a neighbor with a problem with his vocal cords: he used to put a strange device on his throat to speak: from the first time I heard him I said to myself "when I grow up I want to talk this way "

IMHO is almost impossible to simulate the real TBox, and I'm a huge fan of vst tech.
I tried, but I could get just a vocoder like stuff.

Try to get something similar to Frampton performance, or listen to John Miles - Slow Down, I doubt you can reach even close instances, but if you can, please share your vst setup and technique (I'm serious).

I think that a real time complex controller on formants filter (but not only) could ease.
