    HDD failure (Help)
    Disk Location : Internal D:/
When i boot with it, windows hangs on logo screen ...
    Moved it to external ...
Disk Manager says it is up and running (NTFS, good health, etc ...)
CHKDSK is unable to repair and says it is formatted as RAW instead of NTFS.

It crashed while i was transferring files from one PC to another over LAN.

I'm getting a new HDD but i want to recover files.
(Should i take a chance and just try to change the drive letter ? i'd prefer backing up the files in case it would not work
    Any Good recommendations Welcomed !
    Thanks.

It seems the MBR [Master Boot Record] got corrupted on that disk somehow. You can fix it with fixmbr utility which is on your Windows installation disk. Reboot into this installation disk and go to repair>repair console. Next start the "map" command which will show you the name of the device you want to repair MBR on. Then just write fixmbr /device/hardisk0 <-- disk designation after you type "map". This should fix it.

If my explanation is not clear enough, try searching for "fix mbr ntfs".

It doesn't necessarily mean the disk is completely bricked. Try reformatting it after you backup all the data from it, without using "quick format". That will check every sector on the disk and mark the bad ones if it finds them.

    Good luck!

    Are they safe ?
I've narrowed down my search to these 2 softwares :
    - EaseUS Partition MasterFree
    - MiniTool Partition Wizard
    --EDIT--

free version of MiniTool Partition Wizard cannot recover or repair.
    Minitool Power Data Recovery
seems to recover files - about to try it out.

You could try to download; 'stellar data recovery' , it's availabe as torrent on the webz, it's used by official data recovery businesses as well.

Good news, if its in RAW format. It is still salvageable. I don't remember if I did it with Easeus Recovery or Minitool Recovery.

    Thank you
Minitool Power Data Recovery instead of Mini Tool Partition Wizard ( since wizard's free version cannot recover or repair)

I say this since ages and still many ppl don't get it. Make backups at least once a month of your system drive and all other valuable data

Try all recovery sw as suggested above, but I must warn you that IF it is an SSD, there could be poor chance to recover files integrity, because of SSD trim property.
It may apparently recover files, but when you check them they could be unintelligible.

    Hope I'm wrong of course.

    HDD ReGenerator for windows

This is something that I used a few times and it really worked to repair my drives and then was able to recover my files.
The most important thing is it repairs the disk without losing your files so you can recover them
works on XP/Vista/7/8/8.1/10. I hope this helps, not many know about this program that has been around for a long time, it's like an,
IT tech secret that they don't want you to know about, so they can charge you a bundle for the repair and recovery

"Disk Manager" can see the disk and says it's healthy.
"Explorer" can access the disk - long wait - but folder are there (root) but size=0 cannot copy, cannot read properties
MiniTool Partition Wizard cannot see disk ( so can't fix MBR )
Minitool Power Data Recovery cannot see the disk ( so i can't recover files - also free version is limited to 1 Gb ... )
"Seagate Seatools for Windows" can see the disk but is unable to run tests ( teststatus not starting - not even showing 0% )

there are always two sides, those who like a software and those who don't, In my cases HDD regenerator always worked, other sites and forums concur with my opinion and experiences with it, even my local Computer Repair outlet uses HDD Regenerator. there are other references on it online everywhere, this store fixes hundreds of computers and laptops a month, why would they use a program if it doesn't work, they'd lose customers if their work wasn't properly done. I have been a client of that store for many years and purchase all my components from them.

Could be the main board going bad, I had a 1tb drive go bad, finally had to get a new drive, depending on the make and model if it's a magnetic drive, you could probably find a main board on ebay, they're not hard to replace, you will need some tiny star bits though
