Yes Surge is a very good synth, but it has years of development and it is now open source so the dev team is as big as it can be. Yet the filter section is not as clear as it could be.

About phaseplant, we can't compare such an expensive synth to vital, which is 5 times cheaper and also much newer.

 

the MPE patches are not within in the 10 freebie patches that @signalflow already linked to.

I LOVE Phasplant, but c'mon. This ting is a beast!
All tools are different, with different abilities. But for so many reasons I think this one pisses over the competition from a great height!

Vital is "free" but not really. It's a product that was made for profit - while Surge is (now) open source and 100% free forever. And it can use all the wavetables you have. Vital is a type of product that holds back features to make you buy it. That's why the free version feels limited - it is. It's like a free game - sure you can use it for free for as long as you like, but it won't be as good.

Huh? Did i miss anything here? I just added my serum wavetable to Vital and it works perfectly. And the only feature that's limited is the Text To Wavetable. The rest is there.

 

From years of love and dedication. And it shows. Made by less people than an open source freebie.
Profit is irrelevant when you are creating something and you enjoy it.

So, for what you would normally pay for the Vital Plus version ($25), you get the Early-Access deal (Vital Plus and In The Mix preset set), *and* the Venus Theory paid presets. Matt Tytel deserves all the financial support he gets, plus some coin to the VT guy. I'm in.

If the free version speaks to you and your wallet, by all means. I don't know if this will be a Serum killer, but it's a great deal. Thanks for letting us know about this one.

 

As mentioned, the "only" limitations for the free version is additional presets, wavetables, and a limited amount of TTWT. This being said, even the free version will be a fully functional wavetable synth. You can import your own wavetables so I don't see any real limitations to this synth besides the developer asking to support him by buying additional presets . Tbh the price and possibilities of this synth will be a game changer.
