    Dear customer,

As you most probably have noticed, our license servers have been struggling with the overwhelming demand that has led to problems for many of you activating purchased update and full licenses since yesterday's release of Cubase 11.

We are sincerely sorry for letting you down like this, especially at a time that should be special and full of enjoyment, for you as our loyal customer but also for us as a company who have been working hard to release this version in these challenging times.
Our system was unable to cope with the many activations in this short period of time, and we have to admit to ourselves that our license management system as it stands has reached its capacity limits.

Rest assured, however, that no license has been lost.

In order to defuse the situation we have decided to interrupt the sale of new updates until the previously purchased updates have been processed by our license management system.

We would like to thank you, however, for your dedication to Cubase, your enthusiasm for making music, and your decision to immediately update to the newest Cubase version. We promise to do better next time.

    Yours truly,

    Andreas
    President of Steinberg

Seriously, fuck that guy. They've known for at least a year about this issue (due to my frothing at the mouth outrage when it happened to me @ 9.5 ---> 10 upgrade) and they did nothing. Seriously, fuck dongles.

    Here is the Translation :

"Because the number of employees hasn't changed a lot, for almost 2 decades, including the number of developers, but catalog wise, we went from having to support/debug/code new ideas/alpha/beta/helpdesk/etc just 2 or 3 apps, such as cubase, wavelab and nuendo, back in 200x, to having to support numerous apps such as
    Halion/sonic/se
    Groove agent/se
    Nuendo
    Cubase/pro/artist
    Spectralayers
    Wavelab pro/ elements
    Hardware/midi controllers/nuage
    Halion libraries
    Padshop/retrologue
    Dorico
    Vst connect
    Mobile apps
    Etc etc
All this for Windows 8, windows 10, old Mac OS versions, current mac OS versions, upcoming Mac Os versions (mac needs 2-3 times more time and resources, for 10 times less sales,

Obviously, our limited dev team simply don't have the time they would require, to imagine amazing new features, tools, plugins, instruments, etc, implement them, test, beta, debug, etc, in order to release fantastic update versions that really would be worth 100 bucks...
    And as a direct result,
ALL Our apps require many many years, to receive a new version, and our yearly releases, like cubase, well, they become more and more poor, that we almost feel bad asking 100 euros/ dollars, for the new version.

These versions are so ridiculous, that we need to count minor, ridiculous functions, as 'major features", so the press can say "..the new version comes with 30/50 new features"

-we can now access this/that function via a keyboard shortcut--> GIGANTIC NEW FEATURE
    - we added the yellow and blue colors to the color pallette--> INCREDIBLE NEW FEATURE
    - the plugin #16 now has a dry/wet button --> AMAZING TOP REQUESTED FEATURE

we feel bad, because what we call V11, V11.5, V12 upgrades, to other daws makers, our amazing new features would simply be a minor v10.5.8 update.

Because our devs are so busy, apps like hallion or groove agent might require 3,4,5 years, to get un update.
2021, we are going to acquire 1 or 2 extra apps, and we are big to release a new app. That means our devs will be more busy than ever, and by November 2021, the cubase 11.5 update will have even less major features than these latest versions.
Let's blame it.. on covid, ok ?

Again, we apologize for steali, I mean, taking 100 eyros/dollars from your visa card or PayPal for this piece of s, we mean, amazing cubase update, with tons of top requested and new features such as global editor, eucon support, 2 extra fonts for the score editor, etc etc, that 100% of the users will love.

But you know what ? We can do whatever we want, thanks to something called monopoly. Just like Uad can sell $1500 octo cards, with +10yo sharc chips that cost less than 5 bucks per unit, ultra slow cards that can be maxed out with just a few stereo instances , at 96/24, we can do, release whatever we want, our elicenser slaves will bend over and accept anything we might give them."

Steinberg fans will be mad, because of this translation.

I've used cubase for what seems like forever and am currently entirely productive on cubase 10.5 Pro right now on windows 7.

£85 for a couple of marginally useful features that somehow i've managed for years to live without, PLUS a requirement to 'upgrade' to windows 10?... nah, it's a no-upgrade no-brainer for me.

Thanks Steinberg but you're asking too much in return for too little, too late - i guess i'll just have to struggle on with 10.5 from here on in... should i ever switch to win10 i 'll maybe look you up, but frankly i'm in no hurry to give myself unnecessary stress just now...

Maybe you're right but maybe not... in any event, there are no essential new features in 11 and i for one am not risking £85 to mod on a hunch...

    EDIT: Missing word: not (duh...)

I tried Cubase (fortunately an "acquired" copy). It took me no time at all to install it, but withing a few minutes, I found that the only way to assign a different instrument to a track, was to create a new track, unlike just about every other DAW, I deleted it even quicker than I installed it.

I think it must be a record for the shortest time a piece of software has survived on one of my computers!

And that my friends is why I will NEVER buy a piece of software withoiut testing it with ALL it's so-called "features" first. I was "caught" once, many years ago and only a fool tries the same thing more than once expecting a different result.

    Wow. Really? Seems rather naff.
Other than that, the PDC is above all other daws, it has been said.
Yet all daws have various different problems. None are problem free.
I've been stuck on Logic for a few decades, and still have to move audio manually to compensate for lack of perfect PDC!
I have liked Cubase when I've had to use it though.

Wow what a ding dong. How about a credit for those who are inconvenienced.
So glad I am not part of this mess anymore.

How about you take that dongle and shove it where the sun don't shine.

    Good point.
But I doubt any of us with a commercial studio would have been so eager to upgrade without waiting a while.
If anything, they'd probably just offer users a free or discounted product from their list, i.e. not money.

So you tested everything that a complex bit of software could do in a couple of minutes, lol.

To change the instrument on a track, you only need to click on its name in the inspector panel to get a list of every instruments you have and change it in one click.

    Takes a few seconds.

Maybe Cubase is a bit too advanced for you.

Yawn, I bought Presonus S1 at version 2.6 and never looked back, partly made the transition due to the workflow in S1 but also because i was sick of paying for buggy software! Okay Studio One isn't perfect on every release, Presonus are however way more proactive with bug fixes and listening to the community feedback. They don't price gouge in same way Steinberg do either.... Another thing is that without the shitty dongle I am able to utilise the additional USB slot!!!
