Man, as music production users, lovers and enthusiasts, we gotta love how this week panned out. First, Ableton then Steinberg. And now, Avid is coming with a new Pro Tools tomorrow (Nov. 12). Finally dark GUI! Well, it kinda looks like a brother of Studio One. Oh! there's a release of a new hardware too. :)

    They should release it pre-k'd.

There should be a third option saying: I don't give a rat's arse about PT.

It's just so backwards, badly programmed, have its own proprietary plugin format, too demanding and fussy working with different hardware etc. etc. I've never seen any appeal to it, although I worked with it when I had to, and I know how to work with it. It is still popular because then Digidesign [now AVID] had the best and first DAW along with the Cubase in the late 90s. There wasn't much else. Nowadays we have so many DAWs to choose from. Only old guys like me could still get interested in it. PT time is over IMHO.

Weird how every company is trying to push something new this year... it might possibly have something to do with the lack of money. So many companies, and I don't mean just audio, are in a difficult situation due to Covid-19. It means they would do anything to make some more money, and what's better than saying something like: "we made a new XXX from ground up to be more flexible and stable, we implemented this, this, and this feature..." and blah blah marketing talk.

    Hard times.

Well, that's probably an accurate statement man but I guess it also means that each of those companies was already working on something. Rushing to release it this year? Maybe true though. Honestly man, I always put myself in those guys' shoes and try my best to understand business; in those guy's shoes, they are businessmen/women. It's all about turning good and bad situations into more profit or keep profit at a stable positive margin.

On the other hand, in my own shoes, as a user and lover of this audio production world, I can't complain either for seeing those updates/upgrades poppin' off. Yes, not all are exciting and some are not even needed. However, having packs of new features isn't bad neither IMHO.

Think about it, we as users are always moaning and have a little light under our butts for the new Super Compression plugin to come out. Or, if the Super Compression already exists, then we can't wait for the company to release the update where it becomes the Super-Massive Compression XXX version. Now, you and I may not be looking forward to any of that. But we all know so many others in the music production world who are into such thinking.

In the end though, we can all "don't give a rat ass" and just read the release note (just to be in the know), keep our money, and live on hahahaha!!!

I think the same goes to AVID media composer. Those two are supposedly the industry standard and that is the reason (I believe) you are right. They started back then where no many options were available and offered something the industry wanted. And because of that , with all the years of innovation , those programs stayed mostly as they were just because "it's the industry standard". That's the main reason I avoid them as much as I can (and whenever I can) but many studios ask these so you can collaborate :dunno:

    New interface (Carbon)

    Dark mode skin

A step towards ARA integration with Melodyne

    A few fixes.

Nothing major, & still no fixes to common issues.

If you like PT you'll be hoping R2R finally give it a go & in time for xmas, if ur not interested & prefer other DAW's you won't feel like ur missing anything.

Pro Tools sucks. I use it when I have to but I don't like it. I feel like when I'm in studios even the Pro Tools don't like Pro Tools. They're always cursing at it and saying how much they hate Avid lol, they just haven't taken the time yet to learn a new DAW. I don't give a rat's ass about PT. It's on the way out.

I use Ableton. I've been using Pro Tools for tracking, because of it's playlist feature and I already knew it because industry standard. But now with Ableton 11 they're adding the playlist feature! So I really don't have any need to go out of Live. Pro Tools is a good 2nd DAW to know because you know, every professional studio will have a copy, but I try to get done in Pro Tools, bounce my stems, and get out of there as quick as possible.

Actually just today, I was mobile and on my laptop and needed to load a .omf file from Adobe Premiere, and Pro Tools kept bugging on me. Was giving me the old "audio device unavailable" error because I didn't have my interface, spent 30 min troubleshooting it, couldn't get it to work, and so I was just unable to work on the files until I got home. To me, it's unfathomable how something as buggy and dated as Pro Tools is so widely used.

A studio I was at recently, is still on Pro Tools 9, because to upgrade past that, they needed to replace their entire set of AD/DA converters (about $30,000 they told me) and so they just haven't. Which is wild to me.

lol it works fine for me, people bitch on 1 crash and then quit. anyway, pro tools isnt as bad but isnt the greatest either, what is worse is AVID business model as a whole and their shit updates. Like the monthly or yeaarly subscription you pay, the updates in a year fucken SUCK and they BARELY update frequently, you just pay for that bull.

and then FINALLY a fucken dark mode and my perpetual for updates is about to expire in 10 days. This shouldve been 6 months in. Anyway, its shit becuase they also now prevent perpetual from staying perpetual if you want updates, you are forced to subscription if you want any future bug fixes and surrender perpetual. Avid sucks cock.
