Hello everyone, I've been following this forum for years, now I need to ask for your help.

My old PC began to behave strange one day so, trying to find the problem, I noticed the CPU Clock speed that is shown when system starts runing says 1.20GHz, but the CPU is an Intel Dual E2220 2.40GHz. Is this a problem? In the system information the CPU says 2.40GHz.

The symptoms that I noticed were:

Lag that did not exist in the only game I could play here (AoE)
Temporary freezing, but frecuently, in any moment, even if there is not a demanding process
Delay in starting system and turning off system
sudden shutdown, hibernate function works, but mouse function to restart stopped working
Sometimes doesn't recognice Hard Disc in startup, but later it works.

I don't know exactly when this began, but seems like was when I instaled an standalone version of Google Chrome (downloaded from official page), or one day when PC just suddenly shutted down, and could not recognize the hard drive, I solved it by connecting the cable SATA in another port, but this still happens sometimes.

I partially solved the freezing by deleting one folder without importance, but the lag stills.

Anyway, if you thing I should look for help in a specialized computer website, please recommend me one, this is the only forum I visit, almost.

    Thanks in advance!!!

Hallo you should check the power supply and HDD S.M.A.R.T, check if any capacitor on the motherboard has leaked.
Hmm it's best to take your computer to a repair shop if you are not sure what you are doing :mates:

It's the power supply I think. My comp did behave the same way. When I looked into the power supply with a light, I saw a lot of a white sauce (dip) inside. After exchanging he power supply everything worked fine.

You should take a memory test with Windows Memory Diagnostic. Failing memory is the most common pc error. Even though I agree it sounds more like power issue or motherboard issue.
Also you can try to repair Windows while keeping all files and apps. And a bios update and reset would not hurt

hwmonitor (or equivalent) will help you see if there are voltage drop outs.
If YES, your power supply is dead.

I had a similar problem a month ago.
I thought that it was the power supply.
But, decided to check everything thing.
    Long story short:
Take off all ram, clean the contact part with an eraser, the blue part. Clean with alcohol. Put them back.
Take the mother boards power plug(s) off. Check if it's in good state. Some of the black plastic contact protection break alone after years. If the black plastic is broken, take any lose part that fall alone apart.
Put back the plug(s) to the mother board, taking care they are well in place.

That have made the trick in my case, every thing is working smooth now.

CAUTION: if you know nothing about what I'm talking about, don't do it. Find a specialist.

Power supply as others have mentioned is a good first check. How are your thermals? The thermal paste on the CPU would be past its best by now, rule of thumb is to replace it every few years to keep your system temps optimal.

    Check the fans?

As others have said, checking the power supply is a good idea as they get less and less efficient as time passes vis-à-vis entropy. That being said, blowing out all the dust from the case and reseating RAM are also good ideas. If you're still having issues isolating the problem then look into the temperature of components as well as their functionality with a reliable system diagnostics tool (HWiNFO, HWMonitor, etc.).
