    Hi folks,
I feel almost ashamed for asking, I assure you it's not a troll post,

recently I'm starting to use Windows more again (been using Windows for over 20 years but basically went MacOS past 5 years or so), and there are few things I'm absolutely missing in Windows 10:

    1) expandable list/details view in file explorer
    2) see folder size in list/details view in file explorer
    3) sort by size files AND folders together in list/details view in file explorer

    is this at all doable?
    thanks in advance

    MacOS finder pic for reference:

PS: I'm not against using some third-party browsing app if it can provide such functionality

Got to go now and I'll come back, but very briefly to put detailed list mode, press Ctrl+Shift+6

    Shure. It's possible.
If You are in folder go to top and click view tab. Then details.
If You right click on the columns You can add new columns.
In show/hide section You can turn on/off showing file extensions.
Rest is very similar to mac.

Yeah there is no folder size in windows explorer.
To see the folder size or sort folders by size I use tool "FolderSize"

If there is a plus app still calculating. You must wait until finished

I don't understand why Recycle Bin is able to display folder size in Windows 10 tho :dunno:

and about expandable folders within list/details view?
let's say I have 10 folders I want to expand so I see a list of their contents in one file explorer window - is that doable in Windows 10?

I think You can't do it in Windows 10.
You can only open 1 folder in 1 window.
Only what You can do if You have many folders in opened window and want to show their content is enter file extension in search bar at the top right. But You can't see all files. This can be helpful for example when You have artist discography and many folders or subfolders in opened window and You want to have all audio files from all folders/subfolders in one window.
Nothing else comes to my mind.

Yes, you can, just enter *.*
This works at least up to Win7, should work with Win10.

Probably because when You click delete it calculating size and going to recycle bin with calculated size but explorer window don't calculate size and I don't know why not.

I suppose since Recycle Bin size is limited, the folders' size is automatically measured and temporarily stored and therefore the size is immediatley visible.

Yes it's working. But shows not only all files but all folders and subfolders too as first on the list.
This is confusing. Because shows mixed all folders subfolders and their content. Like everything was duplicated.
Just don't look at the folders and subfolders on the list and will be ok :hillbilly:

so to sum things up, seems there is no chance to have "tree" functionality in Windows,
FolderSize app is neat, but it generates additional window, does not integrated in explorer which makes it clunky for daily use,
sorting by size (regardless of being file or folder) is also not possible in Windows

    very sad
    :deep_facepalm:

Take a look at XYplorer https://www.xyplorer.com/highlights.php
Extract: Support for showing directory sizes. Many are missing it in Explorer, here it is: The total size of each folder including all of its contents can be seen right in the file list. Optionally you can also display the number of items in every folder.

Since when? You can sort by every column you see.

    since ages,
Windows doesn't take into account folder size, you can try yourself if you sort content by size, folders remain in alphabetical order

To show folder sizes, go to Preferences/folders/folder behaviour, forgot to mention that before.
