Hi there guys. Have been googling about this could not find any comparison between those two monitors. By that I mean people who could test it in person, no just reading specs..

Where I live is impossible to be able to test high end gear, so I have to rely on internet forums and take shots in the dark.

Has anyone here tested those monitors against each other? Can you please tell me your experience and choice?

I already filtered down my choices to those two products so please no need to indicate other gear like "oh try the Adam S3H" for example.

    Thanks so much, best regards

I guess it'll be kinda difficult to find someone who has tested both...
I can only comment on the SC305 (and the SC205 before them - yeah, I'm an EVE fanboy :D ) which are absolutely fantastic speakers for the price... I too considered many brands and Hedd were amongst them, although I can't exactly recall the exact thought process that made me choose EVEs again... It was probably because I was really happy with the SC205, plus no matter how hard you search the negative reviews about EVE are nearly nonexistent, whereas for Hedd there was a small number of people who were not 100% happy with them...

Are the SC305/307 better than the A77Xs?

Ok so I realized that the Eve does an extra step of AD/DA conversion (If I understood correctly). So they defeat the whole purpose of having a high end DAC feeding it a high quality analog signal, kind of got turned off by this, leaning towards the type 20, they are fully analog. They should at least offer a switch in the back of the EVE to turn off the DSP and make it fully analog path.

For example, if you have a high end DAC like a Crane Song Solaris, feeding the signal to the Eve SC307 would degrade the high quality analog signal when submitting it to another conversion stage.

The HEDD will reproduce the pristine signal as is. Here you will be listening to the Solaris. On the scenario above, you would be listening to the Eves.

I’m also curious about this as I’m trying to decide between the Adam s3h and Hedd type 30. After researching more about how the dsp works and listening to the Eve founder explain it, it seems the dsp is doing a bit more than just converting the analog signal to digital.

It sounds like the dsp is actually improving the analog circuitry in some way and is specifically calibrated to the speaker, which something like the Solaris can’t do. So even if the conversion isn’t as good, maybe you can get better results through the dsp built for the speaker rather than something like a Solaris and a fully analog speaker. Also much cheaper as well!

Look, I don’t mind skipping an extra step on the signal chain if the end product sounds great. Specs mean nothing to me without listening first hand.

It’s like arguing plugins vs hardware compressors, you can argue analog has better quality all day, but if a plugin compressor sounds better for $3k less than the hardware version, I’m going to go with the plugin every time. And I’ve come to this conclusion numerous times.

If dsp is going to help manufacturers provide much better quality speakers for speaker, that’s a road I’m willing to go down. But I understand if others may not be convinced.

There must be a reason why Adam and Eve decide to go down the DSP road while the one odd man out decides not to. There clearly must be significant advantages that they have tested and heard.

in my opinion, there will always be disadvantages to both analog and digital. There will never be a perfect solution to which is better than the other. But if the biggest advantage is one is cheaper to manufacture, then of course that’s a direction companies should go down.

I've a set of Hedd type 20s, having migrated from my old Mackie HR824s, they are quite a different beast. They are super clean and tight. Possibly because of the small cone size and the mid range they can seem like quite a small set of speakers when the intros playing, that is until the bass comes in and you have this super deep finely controlled bass.... It took me a bit of getting used to, but I like them. They are very clean, tight and transparent, very transparent..... I bought them as I wanted a front ported speaker that was not too tall as they are positioned quite high on my console. One thing though they are not as forgiving as my Mackies where to my room, I had to invest in a bit more accoustic managment, but prehaps thats because i can really hear the problem areas now. Anyway can't say Im unhappy about them in anyway really. Good luck with your choice. Oh and my electric bills gone up.... that I am a little unhappy about or at least the wife is :)

After my OP I did some more digging and I ended up choosing PSI A25-M, I figured nothing couldn´t beat Swiss engineering and this is the kind of gear that you set and forget, probably won´t ever need to change monitors again, how can it get better than this? Yes 3x more expensive, but I ended up selling a bunch of expensive analog gear I had hoarded over the years and never used and was just gathering dust (effects and synths), was just attached to the stuff because of sentimental value. I went 100% ITB and the only piece of analog gear I kept was an analog summing box.:

PSI is great! But definitely out of my budget unfortunately. I don’t really need mastering grade speakers for what I’m doing either. My budget right now is $7-8K at the most but if there’s anything convincing below that I’ll take it. But I’m still researching.
