I think there are chaper options out there, I don't see the point of a screen which will make the price higher. Also lacking of faders and buttons. I would rather pick something from Novation with automap, or even NI maschine/komplete.

this looks very awkward to use. I'd much rather use a novation keyboard

So, it is just a midi controller with a big screen?
I'd love to have a standalone version of this, with separate outs, midi in/out and more manual controls (pitchbender, modulation wheel, buttons, faders, pads), with everything already mapped to the instrument loaded. Basically I would like to have an "any-vst-to-dawless" converter so to finally turn off computer forever

Not going to happen. VSTs are too different between manufacturers and they don't want to put in the labor needed to play nice with others. Anybody who tries to do this finds soon enough that providing support for millions of plugins just takes much more time than they realize, and ultimately it doesn't pay off.

For one company looking to build its own ecosystem - sure. See NI, Arturia. But they also realize it's not easy to also run the plugin inside the device and keep the cost reasonable, so they just do fancy controllers.

Edit: just look at how many authorization methods there are in plugins these days, or where they store presets and how it's all over the place

There is nothing new in what we are discussing, someone already tried to realize this idea:

    https://www.museresearch.com/products/receptor-features.php
    http://www.smproaudio.com/index.php/en/products/v-machines/v-machine
    http://www.seelake.com/en/as-vstplayer.html
    https://museresearch.com/products/musebox.php

These products are on the market, so -yes- it is really happening.

It is a good start, but still missing of a real interaction: there is still poor ergonomics in the controls. The good part of the story is that there is concrete research on this type of outboard gear: the future is ours

Sure. Receptor is no longer available and Muse Research is out of business:
Guess why, how about they realized it's not worth it and too much trouble. The last supported versions of things like Native Instruments Komplete was 8 or 9, and there are plenty of topics on KVR with users saying it's been dead for years.

SM Pro Audio link to "online store for EU customers only" that leads to Thomann page which no longer exist, and Thomann no longer sell SM Pro Audio stuff. This is likely due to this:
So they are also out of business.

Seelake started in 2016 and then went silent. They seem to have lasted responded to comments on Facebook in 2019 that there's an update coming, and since then only reposts of news from other sites about Korg ARP 2600 remake and some random live music. To date, there hasn't been a single post on Twitter since 2016. They have no distributors/resellers and can only be purchased directly from their website, with bank transfer or paypal (with 5% fee) being the only payment options. The last news on their website is from 2017.

Yes - it is really happening. And yes, every company that attempts this dies in a year or two and you never hear from them ever again. And in practice, what you see on stages during live shows is a Mac Mini or a Macbook. Or the trashcan Mac Pro mounted into a rack. Nobody uses these sort of hardware plugin hosts, when a computer is just better and more versatile.
Well, no. The real interaction is there. See people who use MainStage for worship keyboards with a Korg nanoKontrol, or using a Roland Fantom / Yamaha Montage / Korg Kronos with all the faders and knobs sending MIDI to software. Interaction is there. Ergonomics will never be good because the amount of controls and their layout depends on the plugin. See Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol or Ableton Live with Push for that. You end up scrolling through pages of settings anyway. The only real solution is a tablet with something like Lemur/TouchOSC for a custom touchscreen layout. People are already use this, but it requires you to set it up - which is why average musicians don't do this. The geeks do however.

There is concrete research on this type of outboard gear, and the research shows that it's not worth it and seems to be doomed to fail whoever tries to do it. Which is why nobody does it.

Looks cool. But.. "High resolution encoders"? Ok, so it doesn't use regular MIDI CC's then? 128 steps is NOT high resolution.. A lot of plugins does not support high resolution..
In the video examples it does NOT look high resolution at all. The opposite, very steppy. Maybe it got a setting for that only for plugins that support more than 0-127 steps?

MP MIDI Controller Intro Price - €650.00. Pretty high price tag, but not too much..

It would be worth it if it implemented MIDI 2.0

*Parameters mapped in one page, CAN be mapped again on other pages, so for example if you want to have Cutoff and Res on each page, you can.

If they not use MIDI then maybe the host automation (Like Mackie Control, HUI etc) which is 1024 steps

For now, i set my fav 8 encoders in Ableton rack.
And use only those "best of" settings in automation/live with a Novation keyboard.

Who will tweak more than 8 parameters at the same time ?
Endless pages of parameters kill your music.
I use an old Padkontrol too.

Tablet with TouchOSC/Lemur is the next level.

That's why more and more ppl use SEVERAL controllers : there is no "do it all" solution for everyone

yep, 4 pages times 32 encoder (times your plugins) for the mp... and no relation between plugin button and hardware encoder placement, unlike the lemur.
imho theres no difference against any rot encoder box. any korg control what else is more ergonomic, i dont have to hold my hand over (!) the screen. whats the benefit?

I don't have a clue why there was animosity against Novation Automap idea. My old novation controller works perfectly with software and hardware. But new hardware must be fun?
