Man... what a sad day it was for me yesterday. After hearing of his death, all the memories came rushing back to me. I lived in southern California when Van Halen was a party band/club hustling band. They played at my high school in 1977 and I remember then thinking "this is fucking crazy! This dude on guitar is fucking incredible!" I was playing guitar myself at the time so I managed to corner Eddie and talk with him that night. Then we crossed paths again on the club circuit and he remembered me! Then... later that summer (1978) they released their first major album "Van Halen" and it exploded. I then realized, they were playing all those songs the year before at my high school dance! That plus top-40 covers too! Many years later, my wife (who was a dental assistant in a Beverly Hills dental office at that time) was working on Valerie Bertinelli's teeth one day and they got to talking about Eddie (her husband at the time) and she gave my wife tickets to a concert. We got back-stage passes and after the show, when we hooked up back-stage, I approached Eddie and introduced myself and told him we had met twice before... he exploded with happiness and said "I remember dude!!" and gave me the biggest hug that I'll never forget! He asked how I was doing and if I was still playing and I responded with "well, nowhere near as good as YOU"RE doing! But I am still playing and I'm on tour with Gererado (aka "Rico Suave"!)!! He was SO happy for me. He gave a me a copy of his upcoming release "Van Halen II" which was boxed in a small wooden crate of sorts and turned out it was a limited edition release for media only. I still have it...

Oh those memories had me crying yesterday and I'm still getting choked up just thinking about it. Rest In Peace Eddie.
You were ONE-OF-A-KIND and will never be forgotten.

Just an aside-I met Eddie at music industry trade show in the mid-80's. He was signing autographs and promoting his signature guitar for Jackson, I think. I saw this lady all dressed down in sweats sort of standing off to the side watching the hoopla, and she stuck me as one of the most beautiful woman I had ever seen . Then I realized it was his wife Valerie Bertinelli. People were in such a frenzy over Eddie, I don't think anbody but me noticed her there. She was just taking it all in and smiling.
