Maybe moving it yourself would be good forum practice.
e.g., Open a new topic in the lounge.
Repeat what you said above. I would be very happy to reply again to the newly located version.
And then you could put ultra-short-comments-links both here and in the new location that connected the two threads.
Really not my place to advise about this but I'm just guessing that that would be better,
and it really would be a crime to simply lose what you wrote.

No need to be worried, since this is your thread, you can go as off-topic as you like.

I hope that ultra-sensible comment is true.
I confess to being too timid to suggest it. :)

the easiest way is to just "glue" the item with the region you created , the action name is "item: glue items " , it acts just like consolidate in ableton

My dear ones, thanks for so many good tips! Reaper is definitely f#ck*ng awesome.

Yes, I don't lose hope of having a better support dedicated to musical notation, even if it is in the near future, 'cos I really would like to have a notation editor more like Samplitude or, even better, Cubase, although I think that this is not a priority for the vast majority of users, but a typical "problem" for literate musicians (sorry to be off-topíc, but this question is a real pain in the ass for me).

..advantage compared to - ? Is there a DAW that works 'destructively' nowadays?
The 'window' term, though - you should © that.
@Pinkman Bingo! All that I need for now

    - import audio file
    - chop/split the item as you like
    - select new sub-items as you please
    - 'render items to new take' + 'crop to active take in items' (new custom action + shortcut)
    - done

Now I CAN create a custom action, because 'crop to active take in items' seems to be the inverse function of 'delete', if that makes sense (lol). Since after the first part the new takes (destructively cropped files) are selected, I could not use delete (would delete, what I want to keep).

Thanks also for the second tip, but that creates a new track every time (a bit less convenient). I guess there can't be multiple 'time selections', but who knows - it's Reaper. BTW, SWS extensions are a must.
    Oly, care to share where?

Thanks to all for sharing tips

    ... a 'non-clumsy' destructive edit.

    Only? Hopefully not. :winker:

The question that keeps arising if I'm honest with myself: whose drum am I dancing to?
Of course, within that, I try to respect the rules of this forum.

I respect your stance on what is an otherwise innocent word. It's just a mouth noise we monkeys make, devoid of any meaning. When it comes to morality I like to ask: do you have morals or do your morals have you?

A useless aside: There are also Belemnites - a form of squid that lived in prehistoric oceans some 25 to 60 million years ago. See...everything passes.

@Ad Heesive...too timid eh? I'm going call you on that :) Your avatar doesn't look at all timid. It reminds me of the robot in the 'Lost in Space' movie and TV series way back in a past life. That robot, and to some extent your avatar robot, looked and acted in a fearsome way and was not backward in coming forward - sometimes even hostile and showering lightning on its human "family".

So I'm calling you on your timidity game my friend :) Let yourself rage a bit. You don't have to keep those darker bits out of sight. Sometimes I feel you diminish and demolish yourself with lots and lots of words and explanations. Try distilling what you want to say into one strong, powerful sentence.

I still use "F*ck it - I don't know!" frequently these days. But hey, I'm not your shrink and you are free to express yourself however you want.

@eldarktufa...not my shrink eh? I'm going to call you on that:). ( How much do you charge? )
No I won't. :guru: How dare you invite me to rage. :guru: I refuse to rage - I absolutely bloody refuse.:guru: :guru::guru:

    --
    When appropriate - fully agree.
Now, if only all the world's books could be condensed into a twitter page :dunno:
and as for that bloody Reaper manual why isn't it just 2 pages for f*#k sake! :guru:
oops where are my rage pills. :)

    Hi ,

    My approach would be

1- i have made split edits on 1 longish Track , now each split selection is an 'Item'
    2- have each item with the starting transient and fade at the tail {or not}
3- Menu bar > Actions > Show actions List > [type] Insert Region > select [Markers: Insert separate regions for each selected items] > [click] Run
4- Menu Bar > View > Region Marker Manager > [all the regions will be marked here chronologically] and you can Batch Rename them here.
5- Menu Bar > View > Region render matrix > [select or deselect the region for rendering] > Press Render
6- Browse to the folder you are saving > choose wildcards for track naming if you want to customize
Now you have created your mini library.
This method is the best if you are working with multiple split items in 1 or more tracks.

    Tx Hope it helps

    @iphobbes
    great stuff  especially:
..the only thing I can't find is Batch Rename in 'Region Marker Manager'. Do you have a custom script for that?

Not a direct answer (cos I don't know), but even if all your regions have no names at all, you can still achieve custom file names for all the new files generated from those nameless regions. It's all in their flexible rendering options.

Hi , Thanks, no i don't have any script for that.
Sorry i used the term "Batch Rename" wrongly.
by batch i meant Individual items\Regions can be renamed in the provided window as per item.

All clear now. Don't be sorry about giving valuable info to rea-noobs like me! :) I was just nitpicking ..and as @Ad Heesive and you pointed out, there is an abundance of possibilities with wildcards etc. when rendering :like:
