Hopefully its not mostly just a UI refresh. Someone in the comment section claims NI took down a demo video where the plugin was clipping and showing weird behaviour. Hopefully the video was shot earlier in development or the release is gonna be interesting for sure!
[BTW, I'm happy they're updating it, not complaining at all, just making observations! Hopefully Battery 5 follows suit!]

the intro video sounds like shit as far as guitar tone goes. I'm still looking forward to it, GR5 was great for crazy effects and cleaner tones.

 

NIGR used to be my go-to guitar sim but was left behind over the years.
I was shocked to find out NI are actually updating because it seemed they let it die a quiet death.
Curious to try it and hear it.
Is this part of the new company direction?

 

Guitar Rig got more worse with every new Version. Guitar Rig 2 was awesome, Patches like A Cure in the Forest or Fingers Claw was really good, but they Disappeared in 4 and 5. Very Disgusting.

after i bought S Gear i had no interest with any other amp or rig like this again .. who knows someday ..

NI practically abandoned it and I gave up hope for an update.

They say that they are using a new "machine learning" algorithm for modeling. So, they have changed the core engine.

 

I haven't used GR for years, but remember it being decent for creative FX.
Helix is about all I use for guitar which I love, though I wouldn't mind the option of a less minimal interface similar to other sims.

 

As others have said, it's not really a thing for realistic guitar+amp tones (esp. high gain ones), but as a toolbox it's unbeaten.

I use it for clean jangly tones, basic smooth bass tones and it excels when layering some shimmering guitar backgrounds.

Also, with the modifiers and all it's a one stop shop FX fuckabout plugin for anything else.
