    Hey guys,

since I always got great advice to any question I asked so far I thought you might be able to help me with building a PC.

Lets say I have 3000,00€ thats close to 3500,00$ to spent.
Would you be able to help me get together a setup for an online music production PC?

I don't really know what parts to get or what to look out for when building a dedicated music creation system.

The PC is strictly for making music, there is no need in a highend graphics card.
My goal is to record, mix and master and produce music, so in other words I want to run "hella" instances of Omnisphere, Kontakt and Analog Lab also running "hella" plugins for mixing purposes.
I am afraid that this might be a wonky description of a goal, so if you have questions please ask me!

I appreciate everyones effort and time helping me find a setup I can get for my 3000,00€ / 3500,00$ budget.
It is no problem if it would cost a bit more above the set budget.

I really hope that you guys can help me or point me somewhere to study up on making a music production system.

    Have a nice Weekend!

Do you have a preference for either AMD or Intel? Would recommend Single or Dual Xeon system or, an AMD Threadripper 39XXx.

Was working on a AMD Epyc mock-up based around one of these motherboards Gigabyte MZ32-AR0, ASRock EPYCD8-2T, ASRock Rack ROMED8-2T and, an AMD Epyc 7002 series with at least 16 cores.

The other option is to get a prebuilt Threadripper Pro (39XXwx) base system & add extras from normal third party vendors to save money.

My personal preference is the AMD Epyc over the Threadripper Pro. Waiting to see what AMD will announce October 8, 2020.

Can finish mock-up & post here if interested

I am used to having Intel would you be able to lay out a similar system with Intel? Altough I would not be afraid of a change.

Besides that I would deeply appreciate if you could finish a mock-up and post it here!!

No problem at all. Will try to post by Sunday (PST) at the latest.

If you have time, watch this to get an idea of why I chose the AMD Epyc.

That would be my Build with such a Buget
If you know someone who can build PC’s it's cheaper
But you can let build it there too (for € 144,79* which is a bit high in my Opinion)

The Case is very Big but silence as Hell . (20kg in Steel with insulating mats inside )
I build a PC for a friend and Youtuber with this case
and this is the best for Audio IMHO

Samsung as Main SSD for the OS
Sandisk as secondary for all other Data
Windows 10 Pro from Ebay (10 € ) Code only Version (Germany Law OEM is totally legal here )

    Between Intel and AMD

    https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_value_available.html#xy_scatter_graph
Intel is high price for lower Performance

And best advice here is wait 1-3 Months

AMD will bring it´s next gen CPU in October or November

Thank you so much! I am going to take a look at the setup you put together and I am also german, so I can actually use the site directly to get what u just put down. And yes I am going to wait it out as quadcore64 also mentioned and I am interested into seeing his build too.

Again thank you very much for putting in effort and your time to help me get a picture of what I should get!

it's all about latency - if you want to hear things live without bouncing all the time, then you might rather split the workload across multiple relatively cheap computers and use something like Vienna Ensemble Pro servers

aside from that, in general you want fastest cpu on the market (which usually means less cores, but higher clocked, for ex. i9-10900K), and for virtual instruments preferably lots of RAM, 32GB being bare minimum, and fast SSD storage, preferably NVME - capacity depending on your library size of course

this would be my baseline for 2020 build, since it's hackintosh-ready:
    i9-10900K
    Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (or ASUS ProART Z490-Creator 10G)
HyperX Fury Black 128GB kit (4x32GB)
Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 2TB (2-3x, one for system, one for libraries, maybe one more for projects and samples)

Here are the rough mock-ups for an Intel Xeon & an AMD Epyc system. Emphasis on rough...

    Noctua NH-U9 TR4-SP3 CPU Cooler

I'd highly recommend some big Noctua air cooler,
for audio workstation, you want something whisper quiet and reliable,
my personal favourite is Noctua NH-U14S but there are various more recent options now - just make sure it fits in your PC case

Yep... hehehe... For some people 1tb of Kontakt libraries is overkill, others need a 4tb dedicated ssd for it. And i had a client with 2 x 4tb ssds just for Kontakt. So, "hella" doesn't signify the type of usage you want to do.
I ask because every person's needs are different. If i am to propose a system build it has to be tailored to your specifics not generic.
    Cheers :)

I'm just about to build a similar PC after running Mac for 10+ years... Are you guys buying Windows 10 to install on it or loading a custom Windows 10 build from the jump?
