I have been playing with some vocals I am trying to pitch shift down but the problem I have ran into is either the plugin is too fake sounding, computerized, or they introduce artifacts.

What are the best practices for pitch shifting?

    what are the best methods?

and of course what are the best Plugins in, I will run through some of the plugins I have used.

Best is PitchProof _ hands down the best for voice (so far) or at least the vocals I am using, but it introduces artifacts womp womp womp.

Graillion 2 is just a computerized sounding pitch no matter how you tweak the settings, change to .0001 and still computerzied sounding.

ElastiquePitch is okay but has a fake sounding aspect to it when you go above or below just a tad, has alot of tweaks you can do but all are meant for onvious productions of unique sounds etc not as a vocal plugin.

DEvious machine pitch monster - is another great plug in but mean more for music vocals than a speaking vocal which is what I am working on right now.

So any other great plugins I havent tried

Toneboosters's voice pitcher is what you're looking for. It's great for both speaking and music vocals, it sounds more natural and there's little to no audio artifacts.

The higher the sample rate the more you can stretch with less artifacts. Melodyne is one of the better plugins with convincing results that I’ve tried. Dumpster Fire is supposed to be a good alternative to Little Altar Boy with some preferring the results. I haven’t tried that one yet although I did download it (they let you ‘steal’ it off their site if money’s tight).

    - Melodyne by far

Have you tried Ableton Live's built-in war modes ? especially Complex Pro, it's great with vocals.

There's a free version of Serato Studio on their site that includes it

Has anyone compared Devious Machines Pitch Monster to Melodyne yet?
The demos don't sound too bad, not as clean as Melodyne tho...

yes, but its kinda useless i guess .. 1 audio track only ... and that is DJ stuff only, while Pitch n Time plugin only for Protools, the k'ed version for Windoes was provided by R2R anyway

yes, but i heard the PT is far superior than the sample one .. 799$ vs 99$ for the price and yes they have the LE version too .., btw i own Pitch Monster and i voted for the chord mode .. which is really nice.

Yes I found this last night after I amde this post, looks very promising, now tweaking to try and get the same sound that I got out of pitchproof, but thanks looks promising, no artifacts yet.

I forgot to mention I have soundtoys little alter boy their pitch shift is overrated imo, does not sound natural at all, its more for musical effects imo.
yeah I am already working with high sample rate, I will try melodyne out and dumpster fire since little alterboy wasnt really my cup of tea. thanks.
