    Hi guys,

I have been reading and watching some about the above devices and I wonder if anyone has some useful info about the dropouts, maybe they are happening because of amd /nvidia tandem?

certainly there is some advice on gearslutz about how to tweak the WINDOWS o.s, (this thread is not about how well they work in a MAC) and so far nobody gave a solution to it, which means that it's a 99.9% probability because of a bad driver...

maybe motu is working on a better driver?

i want to doubt that with the audio card's specs, the unicorn guys would not mind dropping a big chunk of windows customers just because of sheer imbecility.

maybe the ssl 2+ and the audient d14 would be the best choice instead and forget about this headache.

thank you very much in advance for your input!

hi pflame, why do you have all of them? and why you prefer the ssl? are the drivers stable (audient and ssl)?

BTW, in the same price range MOTU seems to be the better choice compared to audient or ssl offerings where both are only 24/96 whereas MOTU is already 24/192.

Of course, if we take the drivers into account, the story might be completely different.

mrpanter, i fully agree with what you said, the motus have the best specs within the price range and i cannot conceive why on earth the f*****g drivers are so shitty!

i have another motu i bought 16 years ago with driver problems (again only for windows)

if motu would fix this, they would sell their audio cards like hot cakes

Unfortunately MOTU has a long history of bad support / drivers for Win.

After all, they started as a Mac only company in the 80s and it's been only around ten years that they started supporting the windows platform...

well, good for them, i must say their attitude towards windows users is not very intelligent and the unicorn guys could be naive back them, but now???

big unicorn dilemma, shall we sell triple if we fix that?

Could be that I am just lucky, but I had not one single dropout or any other problem with my Motu M4 for the last half year. Just plugged it in, installed the driver, worked like a charm.

i am truly happy for you (i am not sarcastic) but that's not the point, i do not like playing lottery games. it might well be i could be the unlucky one. the statistical probability is a 50 per cent

    check gearslutz and you'll see

One thing: you can have the best sounding audio interface in the world, but if the driver is shitty you've just got yourself a very expensive doorstop. Of all the specs, the most important one is the one they can't tell you about - the driver, it's performance and stability. Always spend some time researching it on various audio forums [not just one, like only Gearslutz], even Youtube reviews, and then decide.

That said, I think that Audient's driver is the most stellar out of these three, since I had problems with some older SSL cards about a *decade ago*, and Motu drivers didn't work that great *at the time*, either. Maybe they're better now. I've heard Motu drivers got better, but have no hands on experience with them, as well as the new SSL audio interfaces. I pretty much have experience only with RME and Audient, and they're both great.

    Just my 2p. Cheers!

I was fully aware of it, but I bought in nonetheless ;) Those people are always very vocal and loud but in 99% of the time it's just user error. Always. If the interface would be problematic I would've sent it back and picked a different interface. Easy as that. I would always try something myself and don't rely on some people on the internet.

partially agree with you but the evidence is overwhelming. there is too much people having problems with this audio interface to the point that if you dig enough you will know that the driver is simply not good for quite a few windows users

well, motu is not known for fixing problems. Try ssl/audient.

I had the m4 and the ssl+ at home to check out if they are an upgrade to my old audient id 22. in short no. SSL+ has worse latency, the motu I did not like the preamps.

If you do not record in 192kHz why bother if the interface can? As far as I know, converters have a sweet spot at which they operate best. And I doubt that sweet spot is at 192kHz on an entry-level interface

MOTU gear, as good as it is, is not Windows friendly.

I say this as an owner of a Ultralite (fantastic thing really), which has been at best spotty on Win. On a Mac it's rock solid.

thank you guys for your useful advice, clearly audient is the winner for my needs, good driver and better latency than the 'ssl'

I use several different of the major avb interfaces and never had problems on windows 8 or windows 10.
Driver problems can always occur under different configurations (especially via the USB interface). Have you ever tried another USB bus driver?

i am knowledgeable enough to understand and 'troubleshoot' anything related to computers reasonably well but what we are talking about in this case is that the windows driver is a piece of crap = no matter if you are an IT genius, depending on your hardware configuration, you will not be able to make the audio card work

Motu M4 is working rock solid under Windows 7 / 10, my advice if you have a new computer only tweak windows with shutup10.

    Tell me you computer specs
Do you have it plugged into a USB 2 or 3?
