I'm thinking of moving from a PC to a new 2013 MacBook Pro

Anybody made the jump? What were your impressions and experiences?

I've started gathering a few things together .. Logic, Waves, Ozone etc.

What in your opinion are the essential Mac VST/VSTi's etc?

Will probably dual-boot if the hard-drive is big enough.

    Cheers for any advice

    I did.

No big deal. The system is just a bit more fool proof than Windows. I mainly like the big trackpad.

    VST are quite the same.

I must disagree. I work on PC many years and never had crashing issues. But what is funny. I always see beggars @ PC sections for MAC versions :)

MAC is ok, I don't see so much difference between MAC and WIN beside GUI. In the era of SSD i7 and huge ammount of RAM there is no reason to change OS.

Is just my opinion. No hating.

Good luck. Hopefully, it's as seamless and painless as it was for me years ago. I do not regret it one bit. However, weigh the pros and cons according to your workflow before changing platforms.

    @ SirSillySausage

Yes Linux is nice ! But not for DAW's

I want add to my previous post, that is no matter which OS you using, important is how you use it and how you care about OS. If is messy even MAC won't help

I've done the opposite. The only thing I miss about working on a mac is Logic Pro! I love logic but ableton does the job for me. Good luck on your decision, some macs are nice but over-priced and underpowered in my opinion.

IYou should check out my PC vs. Mac arguments on the Logic 10.0.2 on Audioz. For music production it's clear that PCs are better, I've seen the benchmarks and those were for XP and 7 but 8 made significant advances in this department. I'd link to it but I can't so check it out yourself, I included data and some articles from security researchers, Tweakheadz, etc. I don't worry about foolproof because I'm not a fool. Windows XP 32-bit going 7+ years...never reformatted, never a virus forget about what you get with a new system and Windows 8. You can get better hardware for a cheaper price and not have to support some douchebag company. To me it's a no-brainer to stay right where you are or purchase a new PC. I think Windows 8 finally has brought that fun factor to the platform that many Mac users seem to like. Unless you have a reason to switch in which case enjoy. :mates:

The motto of this video is how I feel about the PC vs. Mac decision just applied to tablets:

    This!!
I run my studio with 6 pcs for 5 years without a single hiccup! Just don't install crap on your work machine.
MAC? Wouldn't touch with a pole!.

I came back just to check......if someone would make it a Mac vs PC and of course, it never fails. It doesn't matter what tests or comparisons people do. Everything will be different to everyone. I guess it's true, you really can't put "Mac" and "PC/Windows" in the same sentence or things will get real. Get a Mac, if you can.Try it out, if it works, it works. If not, go back to PC. I took the SirSIllySausage route and have both.

I friggin love Mac and their OS over Windows, but I'll never say "it's better" like it's scientifically fact. Lol. In the end, is it doing or will it do the job for you? That's the better question.

No I agree and that's why I said you should only switch if you have a compelling reason. Otherwise it's a grass is greener on the other side kind of thing. Personally I hate Apple and I can't stand Macs, I've really tried to like them but it's just so much fluff. A lot of what people believe about them is just marketing and misconception. That being said both are powerful platforms and it depends on what's important to you. For me I need something I can upgrade, customize, something with much more hardware and software options, great for games and costs less. By the way it also works vice-versa in that you can't just mention a PC because my response on that Logic thread was because of someone calling PC users stupid and ignorant but yet was based on no facts whatsoever so I just had to set the record straight.

    Mac = Industry standard

Don'st ask why or how. That shite was already established when I got into this music thing. :break:

go for it - if you have the money to support apple.
i have a 16 years daily experience(Win95, Win98SE, WinMe, WinXP, Win Vista and now win7) and had only crashes/BS with win98SE.
so im crash free since like 12 years now.
well i would like a dualboot with Win and OSX on a real PC without funding apples next iPhone or iPad - i would even pay the 29 bucks for OSX, but apple still tries to sell their overpriced hardware. :(
i would rather buy a Virus or any other synth instead of buying a MAC.

I agree. In the direction that Mac is going, customization will be completely non-existent.

Thanks for the replies so far

I didn't mean to get into "PC v Mac" territory. My main issue has been running Windows for audio purposes on a laptop. I've never been entirely happy with any laptop that I have owned. So I just thought that now may be a good time to give a MacBook Pro a try. In saying that, I'll get a powerful PC desktop system running Reaper to take care of the Windows side of things.

I always produce on a desktop, I don't even get how laptop users manage. Honestly it depends on which DAW you're using but most cross-platform DAWs perform better on Windows. What exactly was your issue with the Windows laptop? Really it depends on the hardware, I don't see why Mac would be better with the same hardware.
