I cant remember the name, but there was one additive synth that I liked a lot in there. (I dont care either if these are truthful emulation or not)

The Continental, it just has that something, provided you like the way it sounds in the first place.

    I do.

I don't necessarily have a "go to" as far as the V collection is concerned because I start with Analog Lab and usually see where it takes me from there, when I'm using the Arturia stuff, but I enjoy Matrix-12, Buchla Easel, Piigments and of course the mellotron.

I don't care how accurate they are either, I pretty much like them all, even the old ones like minimoogV and modular.

Arturia mini moog was nothing worth trying in my mind. It's exactly as Novation bass station VST. And countless free VSTs.
Most of retro pads in collection are ok. Just ok but I would never buy that collection because I don't care about presets. If you're into presets, buy Spectrasonics.
Or get used to most beautiful Synth ever......Buchla.

The Mellotron since it fits my style of music. The rest is a waste of hard drive space i.mo. While we're at the subject: is the Mellotron also to be downloaded as a single instrument/standalone so I can delete the rest and just reinstall it by itself?

yes Ed Jachimowicz, The Mellotron V is available as single release for both mac and windows, The Toontrack EZKEYS MellowToon, IK Multimedia SampleTron and the G-Force M-Tron pro are also very good. I've used them all and they sound great.

I don't consider Arturia synths great sounding, especially when you put them in the mix with different synths, guitars, vocals etc. They have ridiculously demanding GUIs - they should put more resources into making their synths sound better, and optimisation of resource usage.

Having said that, I do use older versions of Matrix-12V, SEM V, and Prophet V on occasions, but you have to process them with some good plugins [I use outboard hardware for that] for them to sit nicely in the mix and sound more alive. A mix using only Arturia synths sounds limp and kinda lifeless to me when compared to real hardware [or just better synths like u-he] they're supposed to emulate. It's just my opinion, of course.

The results are what matters anyway, eh? I'm not saying they are completely useless garbage or something. They are all very usable, but a notch worse than what one would expect.
