I mean I've had a good life with it but currently, as I've managed to offload useless (to me) gear pretty successfully so far, is a Yamaha RX17 drum machine.

I don't know why I still have it, I could probably start a bonfire with the dust it's been gathering.

Maybe I'll somehow make it into the next hottest trap sound and sell the bastard (original manuals and all) for some unsuspecting sucker for £1000 or so. It's the next 909 or 808, you heard it here first folks!

It can be done but when it comes to hardware it's a major pain in the ass.

Surprising,10 years ago I made a gift of a Lexicon Alpha as his first audio interface to my brother, and he still uses it to this day.
Obviously it's not a premium quality audio interface, but it does the job for a beginner.I think this interface uses generic drivers,my brother has used it with windows 7 & 10,with Intel and now with AMD Ryzen.

LOL!! I've got one too.....and I'm still using it!! I've got it installed on an old WinXP dual Xeon HP workstation that I master on. It also has two Terratec EWS88MT PCI cards and breakout boxes loaded in the drive bays. That and various and sundry softs that prefer XP. Hey....if it aint broke....ya' know.....;)

They say, it's great when you get used to it. They say, now we're working very fast.
But you have to use different fingers after years and it's even hard to double click. I wanted to sell it on my town and no one comes out yet, for months.

Weird, the Padkontrols (with the 16 pad MPC-style layouts) were quite solid.

I never got much mileage out of those personally, but my friend figured out that you could hook up a simple pedal to it and use it as a kick drum trigger. He got quite good at drumming with those then, using the pedal as kik and then the rest fingerdrumming.

Then again, he was a solid bassist so rhythm was integral with him.

Although it was advertised as a revolutionary guitar that would replace the normal instruments, today it is considered as a useless curiosity. I've got one from Ebay and I play it from time to time just for fun. It sounds and feels horrible. 99706821110328arsa.JPG

I see. Then it's not dealing directly with the hardware so it's not a nightmare.
    Cool program.

Yep you are right of course. As a system builder myself, at the time of my purchase, i had already installed some Lexicon Alphas and Omegas and the USB interfaces (although as you said not premium) worked flawlessly, so when Lexicon introduced a quality interface i thought i can't go wrong, bought the fkn thing as soon as it was available.
The aftermath for me was, never buy an expensive device that works with drivers when it's brand new and untested.
Cheers all from the beach :)

Nowadays I think that's even worse with all this quantity of cheap (the cheap quality but for much money! ) gear released on the market. All manufacturers are involved. That's becoming the standard, even with expensive gear.
I've experienced some issues with bad audio interface personally too, since I have a RME I've forgotten to worry about that.

Take on your mask on the beach, bro!:cool:And the sunglasses too,LoL!

I have one of those, i just took the ball out and used it as a jog/scroll wheel.

Its great to just use one finger to scroll really fast, much better/easier than using a normal mouse scroll wheel.

I now use a Kensington Expert Wireless Trackball, much bigger ball and better switches. It sits on my Panorama P4, on the pads, so i can control the daw while playing.

So in total i have 3 mice plugged in, a left handed and a right handed trackball needed because i have bad rsi in both arms and need to switch hands to make it through the day. With the kensington to make scrolling easy. :)

Computer devices (mouse, audio interface, audio/midi controller, etc) have a short life and everybody knows that, but we are still convinced that outboard gear is different: once the initial cost has been addressed, the problem is solved and it will (optimistically) work forever. In fact, it was like this in the past. Then, manufacturers decided to include the computer connection in the functionality: the gear has now become increasingly interconnected (and dependent) on drivers and updates.
This is an advantage from a features point of view, but it becomes an unknown factor for the durability of the product: it will work until the manufacturers decide that the business is profitable and until the developers are paid for code the drivers and firmware to operate the machine. They basically turned outboard gear into computer devices…
At each major update of an operating system, we now all ask ourselves "Will my keyboard/drum machine/effect/mixer.. continue to work?”: nobody knows. Functionality of our studio will depend on the corporate policy of each individual manufacturer and whether their investment is still working or not.
The death sentence is often carried out:

    Product is discontinued

Lately, when I buy outboard gear, I first I study very carefully how the product will interact with the computer and whether usb connection is only a utility or is it a necessary condition for operation. It happens that having too many computer- dependent features in the machine it is not recommended
