I'm new to synths and I'd love to find out how to make one that sounds similar to these types of Lead Whistle melodies from Metroid Prime:

I know they originally came from a KORG MS2000. If you check the following link and listen to the "F12 - Past Mind" Preset example, that's pretty much exactly what I am after. "A12 - Turn Wheel" sounds great too!

I got my hands on Serum recently, could someone explain how to do it there? Or if you have a similar Preset that I could then reverse-engineer myself that would also be greatly appreciated!

 

Sine wave. Monophonic. Portamento/glide. Reverb.

 

Just make it a monophonic synth and add portamento. You could automate the portamento or glide time too.

 

Maybe rather a triangle than a sine wave?

 

Maybe. Or maybe a SineSquare wavetable. A sine with a tad square modulated in.
All up to taste.

Or maybe white noise with a (100%) key-tracked bandpass with very high resonance (self-oscillating, or very close to it).

Okay everyone, thank you very much! I'm gonna try play around with the thingies you suggested! Doesn't sound it's too difficult, but I don't wanna jinx it :D

 

I have a special affection for Daedalus VSTi (a free one), It has a very analog sounding, and very inspiring presets, there is a bank (or 2) that have a preset named Whistle and (some) Whistle, that have a very similar sound, I use this preset because is very moving if you know how to use it.
