Those skills describe me, and I "only" scored 120.
    You misunderstand what they wrote.
Obviously that portion of people will be the lower end ie. 80.
This is the only relevant answer to this thread, apparently.
Discussing the test is deemed off-topic and against the site rules, according to some others including the moderator. Perhaps we'll get banned!
Which ones? Melodic? If someone can't hear melodic patterns, I doubt that memory will help.
    edit: It didn't help me!

So Adam Neely and I both failed hardest on Melodic.
But I thought the op was joking when they said I beat Adam Neely. They weren't. That's crazy. My results are on page one of thread.

That's amazing. You beat Neely, myself, and everybody!
    That was the hardest one.

    @scarsstiches Well done.
Can we see your results for each of the 3 sections, please?

I thought these guys would ace it. But they didn't!
Eddy has perfect pitch but only scored 98 in Mistuning Perception.
And they didn't do so well on Beat Perception.
So watching their vid I guess we all dislike it when we don't do as well as we reckon we should!

The thing with tests like these is that each of you will have a different test result under different conditions.
For example.... People have different pressure and environment tolerances, which subsequently affect their concentration and perception. You have just been to a Wedding/Funeral - You are Sober / Drunk / Stoned - You are competing for a $10,000 prize, some will excel some will crumble - You have a pile of energy and are in peak condition / you have been sleepless with the FLU - You have done 20 gigs in the month / you have not been playing for six months (your ears WILL work differently)...
So on and so forth. Oh and all of the above is normal. Optimally, everyone would be sitting the test under perfect conditions (for them), but life does not work like that. :)

    @The Freq I totally agree.
And that is why it's a test.
You will be the best you can be at that particular moment.
Imo, that's a true test of skills.
I think that's what we all do everyday, in every way, anyway.
Just trying to do the best we can.

I already knew my musical weakness, and they also happen to relate to my faults as a person. But that's too deep, and involves analogy.
I'm a rhythm man, I just happen to have notes under my fingers.
That's why I kiiled it on the Beat test, but Melodic became embarassing. I could remember the amount of notes and the patterns, but at a certain level of melodic compexity my 'vrain' just blanks out!
No more Jazz-Fusion work for me!

  12. Mine was extraordinarily low. Couldn't pick accurate pitch. No luck finding the right beat and as far as the musical sequences they all sounded the same. Nevertheless others have declared me a borderline musical genius and have done so for forty years. I tend to work with clueless people. They build your self esteem. Harvard sent me a letter saying I was the first person to score below zero, which the test isn't even programmed for. I even got my gender and age wrong.

On a good day, any person that works with click tracks regularly, or is hearing music non-stop can nail both or either. It's not embarrassing, it's human no matter how good anyone is. I have seen someone with perfect pitch get a note wrong because the tester eq'd the harmonic audibly to where you could barely discern the note from where the harmonic was generated. In fairness, the person said there was another note faintly. So nobody is perfect, I did the test twice over three days and got different results. Again, familiarity is the key because unfairly, I recognised from memory (another key point), I recalled what was right the first time I did it. You're human, join the rest of us :like:

Well done for doing it @Roject! It's horrible, isn't it?
@The Freq I'm going to wait a few months until I try it a second time. I reckon that's long enough for my volatile RAM for 'long-term' memory to purge! Haha.
Or if I get mashup at the weekend (I will!, It's due) then Monday could be like a fresh new start. With less braincells.

    I think this test http://tonedeaftest.com
Is more than enough if You think to start making music.
If You pass this test You ready to go. If not train your ears, listen more music you like.
Listen lot of music, play on your favourite instrument or find it and learn it.
Ears are easy to train. Back when You ready.
Don't let yourself be stopped by hard tests. You can be bad in them and create cool music.
You don't need good results in some stupid hard test.

Thanx for the link. It was fun playing this game..

On a bit more serious note. This (as many othes) shouldn't be called an "IQ test". Ideally such a test would show the "music intellect potential" in a human being, no matter the background, environment, living in Europe (like me) or Africa.. or whatever.

This test is obviously biased - metronome, harmonic content, rhythm.. I remember when I started practicing Salsa. "Just listen to the clave" - the "key" to unlock the rhythm.. gosh, give me back my four on the floor! I can do some Wiener Walzer too, but that.. lol

So, why do great minds of YT and the likes have (relatively) poor results. I have an idea. It was the example with the "out of tune" singer. When she was singing right, I was like well, OK.. when she was singing "wrong", she went almost a semitone up, stretching into kind of Lydian mode - now, that sounded interesting! I guess it's the same with aforementioned Adam Neely (only x10), his brain always looking for a twist/interest/tension.

And then there is the fact that the greatest minds mostly don't do well in standardized tests ..or edu systems.

It is fun, though. Also quite useful. You can see how your skills are in certain areas and practice the weak parts. This however will not pump up your IQ (as I understand it) nor your (natural) talent. And my results ..for the sake of AS history ;)

BTW, I already knew what I was supposed to do from what I've read. And then there is the order.. at the end - it seems we are good in different areas. Will have to collab, no matter how much we hate LOVE each other.. :mates:
