I imagine that all these expenses are done on credit, the problem is that the duration of these dark covid times will be longer than many predict: I believe that soon a lot of this gear will return to the used market

Yeah I wonder how that will all play out once more jobs start closing down and everything.. Quarantine has been great for me gear wise, Ive bought a lot of shit including another sampler (right before people started trying to inflate the EMUs to $1k), newer mixer, bunch more rack gear, a TD-3, new Mac mini and 4k display last month, paid off my MPC at Guitar Center, I even bought a new car the weekend before they quarantined everybody back in March. But Im also very lucky with the job I have, Ive been working the entire time whether it was remotely or back at the office like we are now. The only time Ive had any time off through this whole thing was when my idiot roommate tested positive two days after we went back to our offices last month. Had to spend two weeks out of work waiting for my results just so I could go back in. Wouldn't let me work remotely those two weeks either, so now I get to catch back up with the bank heh.

I figured that it should be a buyer's market with the downturn of economies and folks looking to shore up their cash by selling their assets. I've noticed just the opposite. I see high asking prices for all sorts of instruments but I'm not sure if this translates into actual sales. I'm personally not buying shit right now, and as soon as my money clears a few hurdles will be buying gold as has the nations of Russia, Germany, China and others to hedge against the fall of the mighty $$ as the world wide currency of exchange. Since the US keeps printing and printing paper soon we'll be wiping our collective asses with it. The Fed has fucked itself by its policies since the 70's and with international scorn from the bad behaviour boy's dealings and doings there is nowhere to any longer hide behind the foolish monetary policy of shipping means of production overseas for short term gain but long term national insecurity. Negative inflation is freaky and will bring down the Ponzi Scheme relatively soon. As long as we still have electrucity, a meteor doesn't flatten a chunk of the planet or a solar flair rents the electrical grid of the Earth asunder and fries it like a burnt chunk of garlic in too hot a skillet while taking along our hard drives and electronics along for the ride, I'll be very happy with my Synape Legend...I don't need no stinkin' hardware (except for my guitars (I have enough strings to last me years).

 

It is only a buyer's market when there is a surplus. In this case, it is the opposite and that is how things will remain. As it is now, the demand is tenfold of the available supply with no way of increasing it in order to satisfy the demand. If anything, prices will continue to increase as speculators will continue to drive prices up.

I understand supply and demand economic theory, but in my mind there are a lot of people out of work and either low on cash or have none for rent or food. These are the scenarios that I was thinking about.A long time ago I was hungry, very hungry after a hospitalization where I was unable to work and sold a bunch of high end gear for cheap because I badly needed money. Lucky people got some fabulous deals on amps, cabinets, microphones, preamps and my Kurzweil 2500XS.
