  2. A Harvard study? Pish posh! I'm a Yale man. Let's sing the Kappa Eplison Beta Phi Omega Zeus Persephone Frat House song...."Harvard are a bunch of knobs, and we are great, we are great" My great grandfather taught me that song. Oh how we laughed when he recalled how, as a boy, armed with crossbows, they snuck into the dorms at Harvard and slaughtered them all in their sleep. Oh what a prank! A jolly jape indeed.

nnnyeah. That's how a musician will lose work.
That's why people pay good rates for trusted musicians.

The good thing is, we can only get better by re-sitting the test.

I agreed somewhat, and yet this knowledge goes hand in hand.
Plus if you can actualize this knowledge when playing an instrument, you can get a high score.
If someone gets a high score and yet doesn't play an instrument or at least program, I'd be very suprised, and there is something missing from that person's life!
Unless a retired Michael Jordan is sitting in the stands.
A master such as that would be able to see subtle mistakes in a lay-up etc that are only known from experience, and invisible to most.

Just Try to fail and it becomes Popstars and American Idol (Precasting Edition:mad: )
The tuning perception test if you fail hard is the funniest part.

I had all of the melodic ones correct but i got disconnected twice with the tuning one and once with the rhythm one :snuffy: i just don't feel like doing it again to try to get a score..

With the melodic one don't worry about all three of them at the same time.. just worry about the one you hear and the one before that..
if the first one and the second one are the same.. the third one must be different..
if the first one and the second one are different concentrate on the last one.. if it is different to the second one again, the one you heard before, the second one is the one that is different.. if the second one and the last one are the same, then it must be the first one
so you don't have to try to keep everything in mind. Like that it was actually rather simple.

Sherlock! hehe. That's what I did too. But it was not as easy for me as it was you!
Plus I had idiots shouting outside and I had a pint half an hour before! So I messed up (I think) 4 on Melodic, and 3 on Mistuning. 2 on Beat Alignment.
Please post your results. I could have so much respect for you!
    What was your IQ, please?

I got disconnected and i didnt get to the score.. I dont think it really counts anymore because i did most of the rhythm and of the tuning ones already now, so if i do it again, it is not a valid score anyways.. I did not get all of the ones i did correct though..

It might be better for the test if they didn't tell you if your answer was correct or not anyways.. If you are told that you answered wrong, it just messes with your concentration because you think about your mistake. Or at least they should not continue right away but let you click on continue when you are ready again. If they didn't tell you if you were right or not, it would be possible to do the test again after being disconnected without knowing which ones you messed up in the first place anyways..

Ah, I thought you meant "disconnected" spiritually, or concentration-wise.
I thought you were saying you only got 3 wrong in total! So this is not the case, I see.
I disagree. Even IF the questions are the same next time?, if you can do it again it is still impressive and still counts!
edit: Ah, unless of course the questions ARE the same and you copy the answers down before!

Right now i just can't be bothered.. I might do it again in a week or two.. then i won't remember what i got right or wrong this time

That is what i thought as well actually.. And the beeps did not start at the same beat with different examples which was a bit strange too

Haha. Why should they start at the same beat? Not strange at all.
The music starts, and sometimes the click came in on the 2. No biggie.
I got 2 wrong with the click stuff. But apart from the obvious ones, most of them were cheeky and subtle re. being slightly ahead or behind the beat whilst still being the same tempo as the track!
I can't believe either of you think that Harvard MIT would get it "wrong".

So only myself and @stoiximan have actually contributed our results to this thread.

I don't think they got it wrong.. but I also know mistakes happen.. I just remember that with two of the detuned ones i remember thinking that the one i chose sounded better overall and that i was rather surprised that it was the wrong answer. If you are not sure about your answer and you get it wrong that is one thing.. but if you are confident your answer is right and it is not, that is something else..

Do they always ask for the one that is more out of tune or did they switch that up too ?

Haha! Truly. Because it's like you are saying "I'm sure I left my car keys here", when actually you aren't because you can't find them!
ie. perhaps you have an enflated idea of your skills???
I've only done it once. I don't know.
It doesn't make any difference if they ask you to spot in tune or detuned.

Anyways.. i wouldn't be surprised if the actual thing they are testing is the calibration test they start with, the loudness perception.. and everything else is just bogus :)

Because with that they dont tell you if you are right or wrong.. and they tell you that you can repeat the test.. which would be a better way of testing.. not telling people if they get it right or not

It does.. not if they ask in the same way throughout the test, but if they switch it from example to example it sure does.

They did. Have you actually done the test? lol
No it doesn't. But they didn't.
Explain how it matters if they ask you to determine either in tune or detuned?
You'd have to be able to hear it either way, regardless of what they asked for. No difference.

If i ask you five times to tell me the one that is in tune and then i ask you one time which one is out of tune.. you need to actually concentrate on the question as well.. which i did not i assumed they ask the same way throughout the test.. So i was wondering if it changed or not?

And the difference is that you have to pick the right one if they ask for in tune and the wrong one for out of tune..
