    Hi,
I usually rap on and produce my records, but now im experimenting with singing my hooks. Do ya think its still street? Or is it watered down and why and what would you do differently.

    here is an example:

That's usually how its done....so, yeah!

Do it all, if you can...... There's a lot of singer/rapper's out there, singing their own hooks. It's your song; plus, it will only show your versatility as an artist! Don't put limits on yourself.....don't doubt! If you feel it, just go for it and make it work.

Remember, the only thing holding you back, is you!

i cant understand anything of the lyrics (english is not my mother tongue)

"get your self another bag" what does it mean - would be nice if you put the lyrics in the description

    i really like the track

and singing is okay too, i would like to hear you singing with a deep voice

i think that would sound "cooler" - autotune always sounds plastic and cheap for me

Autotune is so cliche I can't stand the 20 billion tracks that utilize it and horribly to boot. There are only a few genres that can pull it off well and Rap isn't one of them.

It's your art man, worry less about whether something is "street" and more if it represents what you are about and what you envision. Don't follow formulas.

Hey Love "Hey Love" Get your self another bag Get you one you never had.

    Verse#1:

the fiscal year in back of me. Money burns smoke rises cheating laws of gravity
aint trying to build a kingdom im just trying to build a family.
So we could anything random in life like move thru a club like a Phantom at night
and im a keep circles real tight walk with them models on the left and a grand in
    my right.

    Chorus:

Hey Love "Hey Love" Get your self another bag Get your self another bag
Hey Love "Hey Love" Get your self another bag Get you one you never had.

    Verse#3:

Im highly hated cause im still trying to Bill Gate It, highly favored
cause now with you girl i feel i made it. Even though debated i heard
it stated that your the missing piece that kept my world from elevating
no they not mistaking. Went from gold plated to the highly sofisticated
to the "stop trying to weigh it" to the "stop trying to desecrate it"
Cash flows is autimated Paypal's illuminating even while i be hybernating
its so Fascinating. And if i had to duplicate this life i offen wonder
would i do it in a red Pagani Zonder, and still i ponder will i respond
to life the way im living right now baby baby im so glad i found ya.

    Chorus:

Hey Love "Hey Love" Get your self another bag Get your self another bag
Hey Love "Hey Love" Get your self another bag Get you one you never had.

    Chorus:

Hey Love "Hey Love" Get your self another bag Get your self another bag
Hey Love "Hey Love" Get your self another bag Get you one you never had.

    Never a problem man.

"aint trying to build a kingdom im just trying to build a family."
Good track, nice vibe and I like the singing. I also like the lyrics, very different than the standard of the genre and that's something to be proud of.

Ya these artists think just because they can rap and sing good that producers should stop every thing and conform to there time when i make a appointment with a rapper or singer and it is at lets say 1:00 O Clock and they don't show up at 1:00 O Clock i give them 30 min lee way and then i move to the next appointment now if they call me 30 to 45 min before and tell me they are going to be late then it's a different story but 9 time's out of 10 they are not going to call and then they call 3 Hr's letter and say there on there Way  then i Say no your not cuz i'm doing something els now you mite loos a little Money at first but they have to Learn to Respect Your Time :grooves:

I would do it but if you think its going to take away from your core audience then don't. but at the same time you could lose some followers but gain a lot more by including singing on your tracks.

    Sad day.

Anyway, who gives a fuck? if you enjoy your music and you do it well who cares. I'm a white dude, and I was a hiphop producer for roughly 7 years before saying "fuck it" because it was just painful how many people outright lied in the booth. Anyway, I once need a Jamaican singer and here... There are literally no jamaicans or at least musicians, so I fake it did a jamaican accent a pitch shifted my voice, turned out great.

Point is it's your music, do what you got to do to make it what you want. Even if that just means laying down the tracks for a demo till you find someone else to do them.

Seriously man who cares what anyone thinks. Even more than that, in hiphop/rap those who only write raps arent artistsmy main gripe about pop/hip hop/rap is none of the people have anything to do with their own music, that shit is soft. How can you call yourself an artist if you do 8% of the work?

So yeah, do what you have to do to get your music to what you want, even if it's just "for the time being" demo or full production. Just do it, if you don't you may as well stop because you can't expect to have someone for everything you want to do, sometimes you gotta do a lot yourself and then the people will come.

Let me reword that since it came out kinda sloppy because I'm really tired.

You are the creator, the artist. Not only do you have a responsibility to your art and own aspirations, but it should be a driving force of your life [or hobby depending on how dedicated you are]. I mean you may find out you do it well, you may feel that the idea is good but you aren't. But when you have the idea down you can at least go to someone and sell the idea to them.

Anyway, why not expand your talent base? If you want to be the best you gotta learn and try everything. Your first attempts my be laughable, but do it long enough people stop laughing.

Well, when it comes to major you have 2 basic options.

    1. Go mainstream
    2. Make mainstream go you

When dealing with record companies/labels it's a little tougher, because then it has very little to do with music and has more to do with potential sales. Even major artists get turned down several times before they find the right A&R to appreciate what your work is and can be.

So it's a different twist, without expressing your idea's they may find it bland, they may find it missing with nothing to tell them how it is supposed to be. But that's where issues are, they could hate because they can't see the idea and just look at what is "actually" there. Or you may get someone who is like "I have the right person to do that spot for you I can already hear them in my head"

So it's a crap shoot. A damned if you do, damned if you don't type thing. expression may help convey your idea to someone who can make it better, or it will make them look down [however being a song writer you'd hope would get the idea]. On the other hand they may feel something is missing but without you laying out the blueprint decide that's just not enough.

Like I said, do what you have to. If you have to tell someone at Sony that "Hey this is a demo, you guys put the right guy in there and it's PHYRE" I'd hope most would get that but in the music industry you never know exactly what they think is "profitable".

In the end I still say express your idea's and explain.

I only got the vocalist I need for my band like 2 months ago, before that I had pure instrumentals that people were just bored with because while the songs sounded awesome there was no vocals to keep them hooked and their attention swayed, but some of the few songs I did with various other singers people like because while they weren't great it was good enough to get the idea across.

Another example is a few years ago I did a rock remix of "Mad World" [kinda evanesance style] and dude sucked singing, but the idea got across well enough that if not for royalties I could have sold thousands of copies of that cover, horrible vocals and all.

So yeah, I hope you the best man, but don't start opening the door to the big time by selling yourself short. Who's to say those idea's your hesitant on doing aren't the idea's that will get you there?

ANd yeah I understand about friends, horrible for asking about your own music..
