Cakewalk since ver 3.1! I voted Sonar on the poll even though technically now it's just Cakewalk again.

Any particular reason (no pun intended) for using 8 different DAWS? One for each day of the week and two on Sunday?

Started on protracker on the amiga. Wich had the amazing amount of 4 tracks to work on. 2 tracks left output and 2 tracks right output. Basically it was the predecessor of fasttracker. The pc only had that pc speaker for sounds so the amiga was quite advanced for its time.
Then i switched to an atari running cubase 2.1 then cubase for the pc, logic audio, Fruityloops till FLstudio and now ive made the switch to ableton for like 2 years. I would prefer to be working on cubase still but i think 500+ euros is a bit steep at the moment.

@Trurl i think thats what he used over a longer period of time, hes not using them all at once lol.
I tend to switch to a different DAW from time to time when i dont have inspiration . It forces you into a different workflow which helps when you want to break free of certain routines you're stuck in. A different GUI can do wonders.

My musical journal began with the world's fastest sequencer: C-Lab's Creator on an Atari 1040ST (with 4Mb of RAM). I've never had so much fun with ANY sequencer since then, after author/coder Gerhard Lengeling promised us "lifetime support", then pulled the plug. I felt betrayed. What did I learn from that experience?

Everybody and everything we upright-walking monkeys create, dies. Change is the only constant. Now I can't even install H2O's wonderful early releases on my old 32bit Win 7 PC. So it goes...

To get around this problem I have to drop this meat-body and become the music in my head! Not long to go :)

Oh. So you haven't tried Vipassanā yet?
You'd better hurry up, by the sounds of it.
Because we can "drop" this body daily, and be.

    Yes my friend.
Ableton is where i mainly compose for myself and what i'm using live with the band, M4L is an extra reason for it being no1.
Cubase is where i'm working on old projects of mine and lot of my friends and colleagues projects, i'm with it since Atari's steinberg 24.
Logic is what i use at work, where everything is Mac oriented. I'm with it since Atari's Creator - Notator.
Protools is what i use for mastering, home and at work.
Studio one is what i use when i'm light travelling with a pad, because of it's low demand on resources.
Samplitude because i like it's workflow and i used it for over two decades together with Cubase. I don't use it much anymore but its a great sequencer.
Bitwig is rock solid, never ever crashed on me, even when plugins crashed the prog still worked (!) plus it supports 4 monitors, so i can have everything on screen. I regret for not using it very often.
Reason because i like the rooting and i use it now and then with rewire from Cubase and Ableton plus i got over two TB of refills.
There are more sequencers i use but rarely, some with old projects from the 90's like Acid, some just because they are different and you get interesting results like Fast Tracker, etc. again leftovers from the Atari times.
There is no need to stuck with one when you have all those choices.

Why are these choices mutually exclusive? I use more than one and can't make a single choice

Indeed, Reaper would beat it by far in terms of resources.
Undoubtedly a superior piece of sequencer, but the damn thing looks ancient, like a step up from MS-DOS. Every time i use it i get a flashback from the '90s.
And why I'm opening 4 menus, where i could just drag something on a track and start recording / mixing / editing, like in Studio One?
Mind you, i know about shortcuts but when you work with more that a couple of sequencers you tend to mix them up a little.

Been playing with Reaper's Megababy pattern sequencer. It's the closest software I've found to C-Lab's Creator sequencer. Very liberating.
