I have a fairly extensive DJ music collection that is a mess and looking to tag better. Any recommendations for a software that can reliably automatically do this?

Ideally need something to add album art, track title, artist, genre etc, and embed in the file not just edit within the tagging program display.

Being a DJ library, it has some more obscure edits, remixes, promos etc, so something that can cater for this too would be a massive bonus!

I've never really used a proper tagging software before but don't fancy manually editing the tags on almost 30,000 tracks! So, any step-by-step guides or any hints or tips prior to running through a tagging software would be hugely appreciated!

    Cheers all!

have been using Tag&Rename for like 15 years. takes some time to set it up, but once everything is done, it's very practical.

Very very useful piece of software, I use that to keep all of my audio files properly tagged. For creating custom fields, I use JRiver Media which lets me create my own field and mass tag. For example, I have a field for all live, studio, and remasters

It all depends on what/how/why you want to tag, do you have any use case examples?

Most tagging software allows you to bulk tag, saving time. Tag&Rename allows you to use a lookup service (Amazon, Freedb, discogs...) to bulk tag individual albums. You won't find anything that will do it all for you, even if you did you would end up trusting someone elses idea of what a tag is.

Basically I have over 29,000 files (mostly .mp3, but some .flac, .wma and .wav) that have been dumped in a single folder. I am looking for the most time efficient way possible to auto-tag these files. When I load them into my DJ software (Serato), I need the title, artist and genre to be accurate so I can search efficiently within Serato.

I ideally want a piece of software where I can highlights all the music files and then run them through the software where it will auto-tag as much of the files as possible without taking days to do so.

Most of the tracks are individual tracks from EPs, 12" vinyl rips, promos, remixes, edits, bootlegs, mashups etc, and so will not likely have any complete album or EP in the entire collection.

Any ideas how best to approach this?!?!

For unorganized files, you will want to look at fingerprinting solutions.

Something like the open source acousticID: https://acoustid.biz/

I haven't got any experince with this piece of software, but it seem favouable

Yeah, I have been looking at MusicBrainz Picard which uses AcoutID fingerprints to identify tracks but not very intuitive for a noob that's never used tagging software before!

I suggest you to try mp3tag https://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html i think mp3tag is the best and most complete tag editor out there, you can check this video to see if it works for you and you also can check the mp3tag support section for more infos

Given that anyone will have his own concept of "best", I think that Mp3Tag (freeware) works fairly well, and it has a simple macro scripting capability to guess tags.
