I've seen some initial reports, and the performance boost over previous gen may not be as huge,
but eventually new series may lead to previous lineup prices drop, wait may be worth it, can't tell..

I am not going to slam anyone this is a conversation. True real world numbers are hard to say. All the single core performance say per core Intel is faster. In terms of what a user can expect he will not notice the difference. Unless he clocks the timing of stuff.

I have Fire wire also. Get the TI card. It a great card. Its the small 1x pcie.

The reason I mention thunderbolt is that it Is a better upgrade from fire wire. I also am looking at upgrading my 4790k but looking at MB with Thunder bolt. I can only see one AMD board that has thunderbolt but it only has one expansion slot. All of the Intel are better.

I tried a usb interface and it pops and clicks at 32 bit 48. My firewire pro 40 runs fine. I am just mentioning it because he might want to spend a little more for future proofing. That is all.

At like $99 for a true 4-core CPU with a great onboard VGA, it's the best bang for a buck currently. Pair it with some nice 3200MHz [or ^] 2x8GB memory that can be found cheaply these days [Kingston HyperX Fury 2x8GB kit can be found for about 80 euro], a good motherboard from Asus, MSI, or Gygabyte, and you've got yourself an excellent music workstation with a VGA powerful enough even for gaming, for very little money. And quiet. ;) Ryzen 3 3200G is a budget build winner.

Speedy RAM is mostly important for VGA speed, if you're planning on some gaming. Vega8 onboard GPU likes fast RAM. It's common for onboard graphics, since it uses system RAM instead of its own.

    Cheers!

yes I can use Ableton and all my dreams plug for free so I can wait 5 minutes to load a vst
I think the problem come from the date when I upgrade from w7 to w10 ... my setup is complex in terms of running process that I don't understand so well

Well in term of my need I think Im gonna look at the 3200G for 90 euro and a pair of kingston with a asus motherboard that I find limitless in time... I don't need a 300 euro cpu for making Future Bass or Rap Trap 808 glides and run warez full of code that I don't really think change the game on my soundcloud profile ...

What I don't understand is how a computer can be smooth in analisys of cpu ram disk charge and have a loading time with audio plug and acrobat... actually I run 30 tracks in Ableton with VST and FX on every track but my cpu is at 30% only ... It's crazy that vst freeze ! Ive already defrag and even re-install windows system without moving my software but I agree it will be cool with win7 also hey yeah wtf

sorry guyq but the https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_value_available.html place the ryzen 3 3100 in first place for value / vs perf

    I choose finally this cpu ryzen 3 3100 +
    ASUS TUF B450-PLUS GAMING +
    Corsair Vengeance LPX 16Go (2x8Go) DDR4 3200MHz C16 XMP 2.0 +
    Crucial P1 1To CT1000P1SSD8 SSD Interne-jusqu’à 2000 MB/s (3D NAND, NVMe, PCIe, M.2)+
Western Digital Blue WD20EZRZ Disque Dur Interne 3,5 pouces 2 To SATA 6.0Gb/s - for my soundbanks+
    MSI GT 710 2GD3H LP Graphique Nvidia GT710 954 MHz 2048 Mo PCI Express+
    Zalman Z1 Neo+
Cooler Master Mwe 550 Bronze-V2, 80 Plus Bronze Alimentation, 550 Watt

it will cost 712 euro and I want to pay by credit in 24 month that is only 28 euros every month during 2 years
I hope i ll don't have compatibility prpblems with the MB and RAM but Amazon tell it works...

It seems cost effective until you look at your electricity bill. Both space and noise are considerations as well. And you need to factor a wired gigabit switch if you don't have one close to your workstation. Plus it's no good if you need anything that needs to be tweaked (effects, synths) - just sampled patches/presets. So for electronic music or mixing there are literally no advantages at all.
i5 is a marketing name, what we're here for is the performance, which can be measured and compared. Since several generations, i5s were more than enough for everything but the biggest orchestral/electronic jobs, and they are certainly much more cost effective and sensible choice for audio if you don't fancy spending top dollar to get more years of use from your system.
All DAWs do it this way (since there's no other way to do it), Live supports multicore since version 9 and requires it since version 10. From their FAQ:
For Intel, it makes zero sense to go with a non-K i5/i7. Once you go with 10600K, you're getting 10-15% better memory latency, and about 10% more speed in single, dual and quad-core workloads.

3700X moves way ahead in highly threaded workloads ("64-core", that's multicore floating point, which is exactly what we're doing in audio) - to be expected, given it's a 8-core chip - and the difference jumps to 25%. So for high track counts this is definitely an advantage, less so for mastering and/or using few but heavy VIs. The lower TDP on the Ryzen certainly is an advantage, though IIRC there's almost no OC potential for Ryzen, so not much to be gained there, apart from maybe not having to buy a cooler.

To get comparable multithread performance, you'd have to grab an used 8700/9700. And to really beat the 3700X you'd have to step up to something like a used 9900K, but that puts you in the 3900X territory, which obliterates the 9900K.
Hmm, well that's quite crusty to be honest. Could really spend the extra $20 or so for a 3300X, and maybe getting 3000MHz RAM to get the budget. Going used Intel would allow you to ditch that graphics card for more CPU. Cheapie garbage case, too - you won't have fan speed control at all, and the metalwork will all be thin and light - with that hard disk in there (mounted on the included garbage hard disk cage that will vibrate like crazy and transfer to the thin metal) and crap fans you can expect a fair amount of noise. That SSD isn't going to set any world records that's for sure, could have gone with a 500GB 970 Evo Plus for the same price and way better 4k performance (which is a typical usage case).

Overall, I'd say you went for the dead zone of ~$750 where you have more budget than a potato pc builder, but not quite there for something more than kinda almost decent. I'd really go used in your case, that's how you get stuff that's above what you can afford. Or perhaps going with the 3400G would save you from having to get that potato GPU.

Kind of a bummer since with some bargain hunting and waiting longer to save up like $150 more you could have a solid long-term setup.

yes my friend but be honnest don't you know how many hits and masterpiece had be done with a atari 520st or sampler with 64Mo RAM or if you look at my problem is not the pc power it's the good loading of software plug ins fx and this kind of things ??? Actually my pc suck i need 10 minutes to open a project so if tomorrow i can afford to make in even 3 minutes I will be happy..
The problem is the human not the machine I know a super producer in my town he work with cubase sx and only freewares and this band is called R3SET and they win 5 or 6 remix contest in the 2000 years...
It's the fact not a spiritual attitude that we need in 2020

ps this is what they done with sx3 and only freeware

Sure thing, I've been using my laptop with i7-4712MQ for years. Just pointing the fact if you're going into debt, you're probably looking for a purchase that will last you for years - and that's when it makes sense to go with used high end parts as opposed to new budget ones. And the value/performance indicators on various sites always need to be checked - remember most people don't work in audio and thus have completely different needs in terms of performance. So the best value parts for us are different, as we're using multithreaded software. This is different than gaming (which seems to be the target market for most sites and manufacturers). It's just good to be informed about these kind of things to make smarter decisions.

Edit: TLDR we're not gaming here, so getting a meh PC and slapping a monster graphics card on top of it unfortunately won't cut it.

Oh dear. I just saw this. Where do i start.
Do i look like one who misunderstands anything ? Oh i clearly do understand you are a fanboy and it's you who shamelessly bring your uneducated opinion to the rest of us, like you made a smart choice whereas you perfectly fkd up with your comp choice.
My love for AMD ? I am a system builder kid and as such i am as unbiased as a fkn judge would be.
And to enlighten you even further, atm, I own 12 Intel comps (Pentium 4,couple of Core2 quads, couple of Core2 duos, 4790k, 6700k,7700k, an 8core Xeon, a mobile i5 and 2 i3s) and one (retired now) AMD Athlon from 2003 lol. What can i say, i am all AMD right? You were saying? In a nutshell, AMD kicks Intel's ass the past two years. If you don't know what gives you are living under a rock and next time you call me anything out of your own ignorance, i won't be so tolerant even if i get my post erased.
And i saw later you wrote if people want you to return your new comp back to be satisfied ? Lemme save you some time and answer no. But it would be a refreshing change if you returned your brain and went for a new one.
    Peace

I bought intel because it's I've ever used want to continue doing so, plus i'm not a system builder i make beats you're very effeminate. i chose intel.. no further explanation needed.

    and

    Fanboy
An extreme fan or follower of a particular medium or concept, whether it be sports, television, film directors, video games (the most common usage), etc.

Known for a complete lack of objectivity in relation to their preferred focus. Usually argue with circular logic that they refuse to acknowledge. Arguments or debates with such are usually futile. Every flaw is spun into semi-virtues and everything else, blown to comedic, complimentary proportions.

    Known for using the phrase
"Object of affection = Best Ever"
However, while people only really say that as hyperbole, fanboys truly believe it.

Troll the internet to spread the gospel.

Insult/chastise others for using public forums to express an objective opinion, no matter how constructive or, respectful it may be. (Go ahead and admit that it's a good game/movie/etc. This fact and anything else will be promptly ignored in favor of cherry picking the negative, and beating you over the head with it.

Tend to resort to petty annoyance replies when backed against the wall. Usually grammar attacks and non-replies.
"Final Fantasy VII is the best RPG ever!"
"Ocarina of Time is the best game ever!"
"Linux is the best OS ever!"
"Xbox is the best console ever!"
"Dragonball Z is the best show ever!"

The sad thing is, fanboys don't realize, that these companies that fuel their passion, don't really give a damn about us. To me, defending a multi-national corporation like their your own family, is ridiculous. These organizations don't come to your house and help you when you're sick, they don't help you move, or drive you to the airport. They don't support you in any way. It's a business, not a friendship. As soon as you can no longer buy their product, you disappear to them.

This thread inspired me to upgrade to AMD5 3600 making sure to save some coins and still get a decent upgrade. Then I forgot I still have no idea what I'm doing inside PC's which allowed me to break my old cpu and mo trying to remove shit. New board supposed to arrive from Russia today but it spent many days stuck in China playing tricks with fictitious delivery dates. I fear it has learned new skills while becoming a ninja.

Actually, yes - you get way better multicore performance on AMD's mainstream/desktop offerings than Intel's (Ryzen vs i5/i7). Intel has the edge on singlecore performance, which is why people use it for gaming. And in enthusiast/workstation and server lineups, AMD is certainly shaking things up with equal or better performance at half the price (Threadripper and EPYC count here, vs Intel's XE and Xeon). They have been forced to reduce their prices several times already.

It's not just better value, it's been better in actual raw performance (for certain workloads, like audio) for quite some time already.

@Qrchack gave you the answer. If i can add anything is, Intel has still the edge in single core but only because of higher turbo boost, clock for clock AMD wins in IPC and Hyper Threading (AMD calls it SMT but it's virtually the same thing), therefore in the same speed AMD is faster. Taking in perspective the extreme thermal output of the latest Intel cpus and given AMD's more cores for similar prices and native pci-e gen.4 in X570 and B550, buying Intel right now is like shooting yourself in the leg. But hey it's a free world.

if you must go Intel i would get a new gen Intel. get the 9000 series the new gen 10xxx is just an overclocked 9000 with horrible heat issues
intel is dying on the vine at the moment AMD is the way to go rght. now if money is an issue go with. an X570 board and 2700x cpu(8c/16t) and then if you want upgrade to a 3700x abit later or 4000x, I can. recommend this beause its what i did ... also turn off SMT most DAW like consistent clock speed. also you dont need a crazy expensive video card just a decent one with 2 outputs. no need to spend 500 for something crazy

i have explained the reasons (here) behind doing so.
plus a hackintosh works better with intel
i literally upgraded from a e660, 3gb ram and have had plenty enjoyment making music

    but,
whatever, just stop trying to bully people u sissy
you will do/say anything to manage your perception

We're not talking about enjoyment making music. We're talking about upgrading from potato PC to actually pretty good PC.

There are no benchmarks of G6600, so I'll use G5600 (previous generation from 2018). Compared to what I have, which is i7 8700K (launched just before G5600), there is:
    - 3x more cores
    - 25% more performance in single-threaded workloads (gaming etc)
    - 2.5x more performance in highly threaded workloads (audio)
    - 3x more cache
    - no turbo boost (clock automatically going higher when needed and thermal/power limits allow)

Note G5600 is running at 3.9 GHz, but fails bigtime against 3.7 GHz 8700K.

I'll just add that Intel's specifications list "Embedded Broad Market" (that's your ATM or parking ticket machine) as intended use for G5600 and "PC/Client/Tablet" for the G6600. Note "Tablet" in there, anything "mobile", "low power" or "ultra-efficient" is a huge red flag for jobs which require high performance for extended periods of time (longer than 10 minutes).

Pentium/Celeron are Intel's products for old cheap farts who don't care how their system runs, just that it does (eventually, if you're willing to wait long enough) what they need to. It's not to make fun of people who use these CPUs, it's just the fact that it makes no sense unless you:
    - work in the government and need to spend X amount of dollars on Y amount of computers, don't care what it is since you're spending someone else's money
    - don't know anything about computers and don't care at all what you end up with, you need "a computer" and that's it

Defending the choice of Pentium/Celeron and saying it is "fast" in an audio context is amusing, as you probably didn't have anything better to compare against than a 2005-era budget laptop your dad gave you or something. It's like being almost deaf and saying one speakers are better than others. Your opinion is skewed, because you don't have what it takes to objectively form an opinion - you need to know what's out there to compare.

Objectively, by looking at the numbers - Intel are in knee-deep in shite and they know it. AMD as a fabless manufacturer get process node upgrades "free" by just keeping good relations with TSMC (Taiwanese company that actually produces AMD chips, among maaany others) - meanwhile Intel have been struggling to move below 14nm for years, and have only shown several disappointing ultra-weak mobile processors.

AMD is already on 7nm, ready to ship Zen 3 (improved 7nm) late 2020, and already have PCI-E 4.0, and next architecture with DDR5 support is already on the roadmap.
this is also the very definition of a fanboy
yes, you forgot to mention everything else works worse with Intel for the most part
