    HELLO.

so - how do you actually reduce latency when producing but still using a lot of plugins/????:goodpost::thanks:

    What soundcard are you using?
What CPU, OS, memory, DAW, what plugins?

You need to give a lot more information if you want a serious answer. Its like asking a mechanic why your bike won't go over 150mph

Input latency could come from a buffer that is too large, CPU intensive plugins, low memory, slow drive, CPU or thermal throttling. There are so many factors

AS Haliax says, it would be better to give more details about your specific system.

But the first obvious "trick" to reduce latency is to write down the tracks once treated / composed.

    1) Freeze, bounce and render-in-place (to offload CPU)
    2) use RME audio interface (fantastic driver)
    3) lower buffer size
    4) use higher sample rate

This, and use VST3, seems to help as well.

BUt why do you want low latency, you playing live and recording? Or are you just making music in the box?

Latency on live instruments is nasty, I can just about live with 10ms otherwise I have to monitor from source

What about plug in latency? In Live, i was putting Pro L2s on my drum and bass groups. When i put the limiter on my bass group, the whole group would be delayed a few milliseconds when playing my track

Ok, when mixing/producing... stop staring, slack-jawed, at the progress bar while it prints your track to WAV/MP3... go fix yourself a coffee/smoke/sandwich instead!

If you're performing on stage, best to distract the audience from your untimely cacophony by engaging in exotic onstage gender inclusive, pan-species sexual activity...

Add a negative delay on the track to compensate?

    Me?
I record live instruments and vocals. Probably the OP does too. Even if you record MIDI, you want relatively low latency anyway.

Enable Message-signaled interrupts (MSI) for devices with a conflict in IRQ routines (System InformationHardware ResourcesConflicts/Sharing to see IRQ conflicts)

    Assuming you use Windows.

    Google for more info (LatencyMon).

You stop creating threads about PC shit, and dedicate all that time to learning how different sound cards have an impact on latency, all about sample rates and buffer size, optimizing your system for DAW work, which plugins are more efficient than others. In sum, if you are serious about your music, and producing, STOP trying to be a clown, and get down to it.

Decent machine, decent Interface. Oh.. and trust noone, not even the driver telling your DAW nonsense
    about it's latency. Measure yourself.

if older puter...use older plugins...or freeze...better bounce all to audio instantly...
but thats all relative...we all have different workflows
    trial is key

    boom

    Use low-latency / builtin plugins.
