i m wondering if there is a guitar compressor pedal that i can control with my foot,i browsed a little but all the compressors i ve seen so far only allow me to use the pedal to switch the effect on/off,and i need something that allows me to increase the gain when i press on it so i can control the gain amount,does anybody know if something like this exists?

 

If you have a Midi-based Wah-Wah like on the Guitar Rig controller you should be able to map it to the gain knob, you could experiment by mapping your mod-wheel.

I really don't know, I'm just spouting what I think based on what I do know.

 

I guess the mapping is not the problem but to have a compressor which has such function. I just checked my fav. compressors but they don't offer such feature!

Maybe it's possible to build one in Reaktor to do just that.

 

with software it s possible,expecially if u don t use it in real time,u just need to load the effect on a track and set the control changes,but what i m looking for is a real compressor pedal that does it in real time,alas i don t think somebody thought about inventing it,and it s actually weird,i think a compressor that can control the cain through the pedal,as it happens with a volume pedal,is a more intelligent feature than the bypass switch that alters the sound when it s not in use

 

I know you can certainly design your own compressor in Reaktor and I think you should be able to put your own spin on it such as use of the foot pedal and then who knows maybe you could sell what you've created. Here's something to get you started, it obviously won't be specific to what you're trying to do but see if you can't make a few tweaks to the diagram to realize your vision: Building Compressors In Reaktor I know it's not exactly what you're looking for but it's something that could possibly be useful.

 

What do you mean exactly by "gain"?

Do you mean the make-up gain at the end, or the input gain?

You could simply put a volume pedal before or after the comp, depending if you want to control the input or the output gain.

Every pedal and it's controls can be controlled by a midi foot controller. Anything, real time.

You can assign multiple things to one switch. The volume pedal could increase the gain, whilst adding delay mix, dropping the reverb effect whilst morphing one amp to another.
Its awesome.

Hardware pedal, no.
Simple pedal compressors are exactly that, simple.

What you are wanting is in the multiFX pedal board realm. It would require a volume pedal for starters.

 

I know but I thought I'd give you some advice that would allow you to achieve what you wanted, I didn't realize that it had to be hardware (sorry I was mutli-tasking at the moment). Maybe hyem777's response fits better for you.

 

there is a solution to your idea but it needs some DIY,
and off course if you can afford to buy some cheap volume and comp pedals,

if you dont want to try this with your working\playing gigs pedals.

if you know how to solder you can try to mod your volume pedal,
there is a book or ebook called Electronic Projects for Musicians, there´s some tips on soldering.

basically the idea is to grab the input,level,sustain,attack...., or whatever potentiometer you want to use,
then replace that pot(from the compressor)with the one in the volume pedal, that way you can use your volume pedal to control what ever you want.

i have done that (experiment) a few years ago with an overdrive pedal, but i dont have photos on the procedure.
