Spent the last decade getting all my shit legal - feels good to be fair and more importantly for me I can easily patch to the latest version/OS or whatever pretty much without any hassle. Plus when I had a problem with U-he stuff on a new 4k screen with lag their support guys replied back within hours with a fix for it - that's the one benefit of being a proper customer.

I still definitely grab sample CDs and soundbanks from the sister site though and that's saved me a ton of cash otherwise buying some right shit.

 

Own all my software. Samples, presets and tutorials otoh.....

Oh, and sometimes the place let's me know when there's an update for some of my stuff, because....
it must be really hard for companies to send a bloody email to alert their customers .

I find physical objects to be creatively more stimulating, so I mostly use hardware.

I come to the sister site for books mostly. I don't know any other sites with free or paid content that has such an incredible selection of audio related literature. Big thank you to everyone picks out the books.

 

This 100% is true for me as well! I completely agree with Oly. I hate most copy protection schemes, but I’m not a thief either. Good developers deserve to earn a living, but I hate being so limited by the majority of “online” activation demands. I do my best to keep my music computer(s) OFFLINE.

 

Came to the scene after purchasing an Atari St, purchased a Roland controller, and a Yamaha tone module. Purchased Cubase 6, and now own lots of Waves etc. I would have never been able to purchase my main components without the aid of this site. I still browse and answer when feel able and cannot imagine not being able to visit and interact and browse this hallowed site. I now own every plug-in, vst and daw that I use.

 

agreed: if the software didn't even make it to Audioz then its probably not worth checking out lol

 

That is so tru now that i think of it the linking system makes it so easy to discover new stuff and with 1 click you are on their site exploring prices and other stuff in their catalog.... and its like an awsome filter.

I arrived at AudioZ not knowing what to expect. Catalyst was a GREAT help to me and I enjoyed his reverent style. But I initially started to download stuff I needed (as a burgeoning film composer) because I simply could not afford the 2 libraries I needed for the film project I was involved with at the time. It was a God send. Anyway, I was buying everything back then and was hating the fact that most everything I bought was a huge disappointment and I considered most of what I bought a waste of my money because the demos were so deceiving. So many libraries taking up hard drive space that I would rarely use because of the type work I was doing. So... AZ was a perfect testing ground. I downloaded stuff with the intention of buying what I truly wanted to keep and quite honestly (?), I have thrown away 70% of what I downloaded after I deemed it useless. So many libraries become redundant and repetitive. I ended up just keeping the stuff I couldn't afford but buy pretty much everything else because I now work as a professional composer. I've always told myself that I would pay for everything eventually "when I make money from the music I write" but truth be told, you never stop buying the hardware upgrades that it takes to keep a pro studio operational... so, I'm still way behind in buying the libraries that were "too expensive" (namely Spitfire Audio, ProjectSAM and Orchestral Tools)... I still owe them!

 

I own a lot and I don't own a lot. I have never purchased a Kontakt library. I have bought almost every synth I use. Same with plugin effects.

There is only one reason to use a hacked version of any product you can afford to buy.
When the hacked version works better and has fewer bugs than the purchased retail version.
Unfortunately, the door swings both ways.
Some of us work on the trial for 30-60 day period. If I use it all of the time, I buy it. We each have our own code of conduct, that's mine and I don't expect anyone else to feel the same.

 

I own probably around 65-75% of what I use. I mainly use Plugin Alliance, Serum, and Airwindows (it's free but supported through patreon), all of which I own, I also use a few Waves plugins and others that I don't currently own, but will buy when I can afford it. I owe my whole musical history to warez, wouldn't have ever been able to start up when I was broke and 16, so now as I've gotten older I'm buying what I use.

I don't mind paying for software, it's when I'm forced to pay each year to use it that I get gnarly. At least IntelliJ offers me a perpetual fallback license, other products should follow suit
