I hope word gets around to crack teams to what Shitfire did to the global composer community... Especially if its true the winner has already worked with JJ.

Anyone who has worked with or been to JJ's home know he's a big video game buff.
    That's all i'll say :winker:

Yes the competition looks like a big joke to me too.
Yes, the composer and the director worked together for Mission Impossible 3, but that doesn't mean they actually worked together. Kudell's work was sound editing and it's a really small credit, certainly not the thing that would let you have any contact with the director!

There was 11K entries, so we can be sure they didn't listen all of them. Maybe Kudell's piece was a "stopper" for them. I saw a comment which saying the score perfectly fits the scene. The character was using some drugs in that scene and we hear that chiptune when drug's effective. I didn't follow the serie after the first season, so I don't know about the story in the scene but if that drug story is right, then the whole thing doesn't seem a joke anymore. I also think making a chiptune is harder than making something like Zimmer.

Already gave my opinion about that part in my first reply. :)
Don't get me wrong, I understand exactly why everyone who participated feels frustrated. But at the end, the winner (related to the jury or not) came up with ideas no one had probably thought off. Good or bad, joke or serious, it's different and thus original in MY opinion. Should he've won? I guess not. Although the chiptune music doesn't bother me that much. The Nintendo sound effects on the other hand, maybe a 'bit' too much.

By the way, I disliked the whole third season. What a mess :woot:

I’m not touching anything with JJ Abrams’ name on it with a ten-foot pole. Also they absolutely destroyed Westworld after a phenomenal 1st season - the good old Game of Thrones treatment. Couple this with a rubbish prize and I wonder why anyone even participated...

Also shame on HZ’s attitude towards people for having an opinion on music; basically: “AGREE with us & keep your mouth shut or you can’t sit with the cool guys”.

He made some nice tracks back in the day using other people’s melodies (e.g.: Klaus Badelt’s “Pirates”) but now I think we’re all tired of the 16th note string ostinatos, Damage percussion loops and BRAAAHHHMMS.

Keep making good music my friends and f**k what big corpos/mafias say.

from this whole affair, the one thing that annoys me the most to no end, is how everyone in defense of the winner lines up behind the narrative that "everyone else wrote a HZ wannabe score".
which is AS FAR from the truth as possible.
there were at the very least hundreds, if not thousands of interesting, original, unique entries, that had a sound of their own, and even took the "genre change" thing into consideration. maybe the problem is that they tried to play it a lot more subtle so as to not get in the way of the scene, as does the winner.

so please, please, stop this false "everyone else was a HZ wannabe" narrative, it is FALSE.

and after how HZ reacted, I guess noone would want to be like him anyway.

    personaly,
i wanted to enter the compo. but after watching some behind the scenes interview with the directors and producers of the show, i decided to let this fish go.

what they said they wanted to do, and what they actually manage to do with that scene, falled flat on its face in my book. they didnt accomplish thier vision at all. NO MUSIC could have saved thier bad writting and bad sequencing and bad editing for this scene.

This contest brought out a whole lot of nasty. It honestly felt more like a publicity stunt... I seriously doubt they listened to all submissions, there just wasn't enough time to do so.

    What a mess.

First runner up I think was the closest to the scene with music. Second sounded too orchestral for me, not for the action scene. Third runner up tracks sounds like something out of Jurassic Park. The winner sounded like bastard child of Mario music, rock and thrown in battle music imho.

They could 've honored this entry as a different approach and still choose another winner. This score fucked up the scene and their decision fucked up the other composers. But hey , all this could just be a way to know which composers use cracked spitfire stuff. "well it says John Doe here . Do we have him in our customer list? "

At 7:57 mins, after they've stepped out of the car, it's an inversion of the Zelda theme. This was done better in 'Joker'.
You guys notice how the Joker theme is a weird but very cool inversion of what we heard in The Dark Knight?

From what I've heard, the winner had connections to one of the jury members

    :hahaha:
