I downloaded East West Colossus but I can't open the installer on my Mac running Mountain Lion because PowerPC is not supported, I tried to open the .nks files on Kontakt 5 but they won't open, how can I achieve this? Also would I need to register the library on Kontakt?

You can't open .nks files. These are containers for the samples. *no*
Make a double click on one of the .nki instruments and it will open in Kontakt.

You can add Colossus also as library via the Library Tab and then open any instrument of your choice.
If you want to do that, you might add Colossus each time anew, when you start Kontakt again.
It's because for whatever fucking reason Kontakt does not safe the settings of the older libraries like Colossus.
It depends on the Kontakt version...

    You don't need the installer.

Edit: i told you something wrong. It's some time ago, since i have installed a Kontakt library that way.
I have Colossus, but i trashed it's installer long time ago.
I remember, that you need the installer to install the nki instruments at first.
If setup is not possible, then you have to get these files from somewhere else. I am sure someone will be so kind.......
Or try to make a right-click on the installer package and search within it's content,
if you can grab the files manually from there.
Or use another system with VM, to get the files.

What I have told you, applies only to the non-legit Kontakt btw....

Would it be possible to install Colossus without Kontakt? I heard that the presets have no effects added when opened in Kontakt. The PowerPC problem is the only thing but if I install it using Snow Leopard on Parallels should it work on Mountain Lion?

Snow Leopard supports Power PC. Yes, you could install Colossus there (without Kontakt,) and afterwards move the files to your current system.
You can also use the windows installer in a VM. You just need the instruments....

OK thanks, is PowerPC required to actually run the plugin or is it just for the installer?

It's just for the installation of the files. You don't need to run the plugin in your virtual machine.
    I hope i didn't get you wrong.
In case you want to use Colossus generally without Kontakt - this is not possible.
Colossus lib is encrypted and only for the use in Kontakt.

But is it possible to use all the effects in Kontakt 5? Because I heard they only work using the original plugin.

Why would you want to install colossus to begin with? The Kontakt factory library pretty much is the same thing and it's updated. It's been that way since version 3 of Kontakt.

    @ LS2013,

At this time, you CAN'T open directly '.nks' (Native Kontakt Samples) files within Kontakt 5.

By cons, you can use an older version of Kontakt : the 'v4.1.1' by 'Team AiR' (and only this one at my knowledge !) for extracting all the samples ('.wav') included in these '.nks' files.

Another working solution is to use a program named : 'unnks' ('.nks' and '.nkx' archive unpacker), BUT UNFORTUNATELY it's discontinued since long time now due to some complaints of 'Native Instruments' toward his creator.
However, if by chance you can still get this program... you'll be able to extract all the contents included in your '.nks' and '.nkx' files.

Simply for info : 'unnks' ('.nks' & '.nkx' archive unpacker)

OK I managed to get the .nki files and open them on Kontakt 5 but not it is saying I need to activate the original library to use the samples, how do I get around this?

The problem is that the Keygen only works with Colossus registration tool (which I can't open on Lion because of the PPC problem), it won't register the library on Kontact. I managed to get it working on Kontakt 5.1 but now some of my 5.3 libraries aren't working, is there a way to install both?

Congratulations. Now you have the .nki's. You do not need any other files, keys and tools.
Believe me, the registration tool is worthless for the use of your library in non-legit Kontakt.
This tool is only useful, if you want to play Colossus on the original attached East West Player
or in case you want to activate the installed plugins. Both is not possible anyway on Lion system.

In Kontakt 4 everything has worked well with the older East-West Libs,
but the first versions of Kontakt 5, that were available,
suddenly had that problem specifically with the activation of the old stuff.
Only those libs with .nks container files were affected by this phenomenon.

Kontakt 5.2 was for most people the first version with which it worked again.
    You need this version. *yes*

Many other guys (including myself) have experienced exactly the same shit.

I don't know Kontakt 5.3. :dunno: Is it the newest legit version?

I'm downloading it now, I'll see if it works, also will the old factory instruments work with this? I found a link to the new one but there aren't enough seeds to download 30 gb.

I forgot to say, that you need 5.2.0, not 5.2.1!
5.2.1 obviously also doesn't work well. I haven't installed it,
after i had read the comments written by others.......

    What instruments do you mean?

Beside the nki's and the container files there are only
the Standalone and plugs of this East-West Player (NI Kompakt Instrument),
As i said, they do not work on your system. But the old instruments (nki's)
can be used, though they are from 2005.....
