Would like to hear from 5122DC owners. I am looking for a 4th guitar (hopefully second hand ...all my others have been).

My favourite guitar is my modified Pro Jet and I am definitely a Gretsch fan. However, I recently had a good session on an Epiphone Casino fitted with TV Jones pups and was very impressed. This could well be the playability, feel and sound (very Gretsch like) that I am looking for. Unfortunately the guitar was not for sale. I am right in assuming that the dimensions and construction are similar to the 5122DC and that wıth the same pups they are going to sound very similar?

What is the depth of the 5122? I should add that I also got to try out briefly a single cut White Falcon and have to report this guitar sizewise is not for me. Just as well in view of the price!

If I decide to go down the new route I note that the Casino is about $100 cheaper at MF than the 5122. Presumably mainly because of the Bigsby.

 

not a 5122 owner, but a sheraton II here. i found out on my journey that there are (atleast) two manufacturing site, japan and korea. so look into the sn# of the one your looking at.
in my case, the sheraton is currently made in both sites but wow what a difference. the one i ended up with is a japanese build, has the 5 piece neck, the smooth cut heel joint, etc as i expected. but i found out that the korean of the same name has a one piece neck, square joint, and much lower grade parts.
i had found this other one at a pawn store and in talking to the sales guy i said ok i'll buy it, he put it back on the shelf and said nope, i wont sell it to you. you know too much about what you want and this is a korean model. you wont be happy with it. lucky for me, that was the kindest sales man ever.
with my new education i did find a japanese build and love it

 

plug for heritage. if you like the gretch feel maybe look at heritage. i have toured the plant at the old gibson location in michigan and talk about hallowed ground. and Ren (the guy) who invented the plek machine and the humbucker was still there. very well built. but like all instruments you should play one before purchasing. best of luck

 

the tour at the gibson plant was fun, Ren wasnt a worker anymore but gave the tours. and at the end of the tour he asked the group if they wanted to see his office where he made these world changing inventions. it is a basically a broom closet behind the restroom. no windows and one power jack. to see all his computers and test equipment hanging from one splitter was funny as hell. so the hole tour is packed into this broom closet, covid style and he says "check out this new idea i have" and the hair on your neck raises because thats how it happened
