@Gyro Gearloose It still appears to me like you've simply done lots of file operations (download new stuff, unpack files, delete the download archives, install, uninstall, and the same loop again - all of that will lead to some fragmentation over time which is normal.
It's not necessarily critical either because in contrast to hard drives, access times won't get so much worse with file fragmentation on an SSD.
Just make sure you have a working backup of your system and have a nice cup of coffee. Or beer.

Also, it is useful to turn off "Superfetch" and "ReadyBoost"

[if you have it] services when using SSD as a system drive.

    Disable from Services
Hold the Windows Key, while pressing “R” to bring up the Run

    dialog box.
    Type “services.msc“, then press “Enter“.
The Services window displays. Find “Superfetch” in the list.
    Right-click “Superfetch“, then select “Properties“.
Select the “Stop” button if you wish to stop the service. In

the “Startup type” dropdown menu, choose “Disabled“.

for readyboost click properties of the drive

    ----------

    turn off virtual memory :

Description: How to turn off virtual memory in Windows 7 for

    SSD's.

Click the Start button and then right click on Computer

    and select Properties.

In the properties menu, click Advanced System Properties on

    the left side.

From the Advanced tab, click Settings under the Performance

    heading.

From the Advanced tab click Change under the Virtual memory

    heading.

Uncheck the "Automatically manage paging file size for all

    drives" box.

With the drive to disable virtual memory selected in the

box, select No paging file.push set

It was Windows. If it detects an SSD, it automatically optimizes the necessary settings for it (disables defragmentation, superfetch, etc.).

Why you shouldn't disable the page file ("virtual memory"): https://superuser.com/questions/810...e-lots-of-ram-or-should-i-move-it-to-a-virtua

Absolutely. 4GB simply isn't enough for audio. Load a few Spectrasonics instruments and be surprised! :hillbilly:
Either upgrade to more RAM or keep paging to the SSD enabled. Of course that will increase the wear on the SSD but that's the compromise to face when choosing a memory strategy.

Yeah, I was about to comnent it that although I suggested to turn off virtual memory, it also means that afterwards Windows won't be able to handle heavy workflow. That's a problem. You want to use a pc with 4GB of memory in 2020 for more than just Office, browser and playing aidio/video files.
    No way!
You need a pc with at least 8GB of ram. You can buy a Beelink mini pc (e.g. x45 or X55) with gemini lake. 6 months ago it was around 185 - 245 dollars, depending on the cpu and ssd size. Now after the pandemic it's more difficult to find or are much more expensive.
Or get a decent desktop pc.

Absolutely. However, there's a good chance that @Gyro Gearloose 's laptop supports 8Gb - if so, then either:

    1. Purchase a matching second-hand 4Gb ram stick to the one that's already installed. Or...
    2. Remove the two 2Gb sticks and replace with two second-hand 4Gb sticks of the same clock speed.

I say this, 'cos second-hand laptop memory is really cheap on ebay etc. I recently upgraded an old laptop to 8gb for about £25 & the improvement in stability and general working performance entirely justified the relatively small upgrade cost!
