I own the Brainworw Oberhausen which sounds great for a plugin but if I would find the real SEM for a nice deal I would grab it for sure.

    Yes!
My friend was playing with Herbie Hancock in the Albert Hall, and Herbie's tech had been running late.
Subsequently, Herbie threw the Moog offstage in a coke fit because it was out of tune!

i dunno ...its not only bout warm...i think analog has more presence on certain material..also more air shizzle maybe

but i can make sick bass also in ITB ......but what ever not so important for me...

but if i wanted to compete on cinematic scoring with huge dynamic range - with low end stuff , i would need it def ..

on the floor at stephan bodzin i always can hear out the moog sub37 bassline flavour--great...but more different synth flavours would be better...vst or hw what ever
the sub37 is def a redline thru or for this album he made

  5. So if I posted a track that included VPS Avenger, Alchemy, Arturia Matrixbrute, Moog Sub37 and AAS Chromaphone, you could tell me which sounds belong in the hardware or software category?

  8. So there it is. A mix of soft synths and hardware. And here is my hardware.

Awesome!. You did what I was going to suggest in the first place. If whomever wants to pretend they can tell the difference between hardware or software synths after that fact. Should be able to pick out one from the other in a blind listening test, right? But hey, using one versus the other will make a bad song amazing, duh. You all didn't know that?

  10. Doesn't look like anybody wants to accept the challenge and pick the hardware from the software. I don't blame them. It can't be done.

The lead solo was obviously the MiniMoog

  12. Alas my dear Trurl, no Moogs were involved in the production of this sonic sculpture.

You're supposed to point out there aren't any leads either. I thought you said there was a Sub 37 though.

People will buy the moog still because it's much more intuitive to edit with knobs than it is using a mouse and more importantly some people just like collecting hardware purely because it looks nice and they can brag that they have a Moog.

I have a Moog Subsequent 37 myself and I'm actually going to sell it shortly because quite frankly Diva gets close enough that I can't be arsed to turn the Moog on and have to piss about recording it as audio into a project and all that entails when its far easier for me to work ITB instead and continue to tweak the project on my laptop which I can't if the Moog is at home. I also know a mate who is a well known progressive house producer who has just sold his Sub 37 for the same reason - lack of use because Diva or Repro sounds close enough in a mix that he didnt need a grand's worth of hardware sat idle.

I guess the bass is we hear from 00:10 and the pluck at 01:26 are analog.I can't say which is the Arturia or the Sub37 because I don't own these synths. But I will receive my Subsequent 37 today normally,I'm getting excited!I hope it's a good synth..

Don't get me wrong they sound great and the free editor is really good to but I've decided I'm far too lazy in the main to work with hardware synths and audio and much prefer to have the portability to keep tweaking on my laptop away from home.

The background to this was that I was stuck overseas for 3 months in the whole Covid thing with no access to my Moog and TD3 and only had my laptop yet made numerous tracks without either one, which to me means I no longer need them.

Ok thank you for your answer mate.
I will judge it by myself in anyways...That's a lot of money for me,so my expectations are probably too high LoL!
Hardware synths have their cons, the workflow of plugins within a DAW is much more convenient. If a synth doesn't sound better than a plugin,it's not worth the big amount of cash.
I'm interested to get the little TD-3 in the future,I want a 303 style synth in my setup. How do you make your 303 synths for now ITB?

  20. Dear friends,
I sincerely hope you will forgive me for I have deceived you. I planted the idea that you would hear hardware if you thought there was hardware, but every instrument used here is a VST. With the exception of a vocal sample at the end everything is a pure synth. No samples, all synths. I made much use of Softube Modular and Heartbeat. Of course Diva is in there and Arturia CS80 for pads.
    Your Pope,
    Lenny
