I never found the compressor sidechain that effective. I don't know it just does not work most of time, it does not give me the sound I want. Automating volume manually seems to be much better.

 

I agree I never found sidechain compression natural it always sound weird , however the video is not about sidechain compression its about the eq function in the sidechain of fab filter pro c and how to use it to balance problematic frequencies

Lately, i improve my sound design techniques.

The latest technique i've learned how to design a cinematic pulse synth bass.

In my time this week I have learned that half a bottle of Cointreau does not make you work any more efficiently. More constructive, although not necessary to my work as a musician, I learned a valuable technique nonetheless. If you brake hard and early going into the first chicanes at Monza, you will improve your results in Real Racing 3. Oh, and chew your food thoroughly.

Yeah. All the hype that made me think it was essential knowledge. Then when I mastered it, I realised I don't like it nor do I need it. Daft Punk can keep it.

 

I was mixing a track for a friend that had an 808 and a deep sub bass.
The goal for me was to make space in the sub bass every time the 808 came in. But only on a specific frequency.

I don't own any plugs that can do that.
So i made a copy of the bass. Made 1st track the one with the eq to make room for the 808.
And manually cut away all the bass that was not playing at the same time as the 808.

So the second bass ofcourse without eq. Cut away the bass that overlapped the 808.

There you have it. My latest technique. Manual dynamic eq type thingy??
Probably handier to just buy something like Melda dynamic eq

Dude THAT is he kind of stuff I like to read about. Doing it old school. Back in the day all I had was a 4-track Port-a-Studio, an SPX-90 and a DOS version of Cakewalk and WE LIKED IT THAT WAY. Made you work hard for solutions to things. GET OFF MY LAWN

I would definitely just have bought Trackspacer which does it cos I'm one lazy mofo

 

I dont think you need any special plugins for this you could have sidechained any multiband compressor , however I think this way of doing it always sound better than any trackspacer or dynamic eq , just like volume automation , somethings you still have to do manually
