I don't want shopify to pay a monthly fee just want to showcase some music maybe......would be cool if i could sell items there eventually though can i do that for free? how? if not free what is the next alternative best option? as soon i visit the link nothing is there.........what do i need to put things on the website for free?
You certainly can build your own website for free. The absolute minimum that you need is an index.html page on your .com domain account. It might say something like the ubiquitous "Site Under Construction". Copy all of the red lines below, paste into Notepad or whatever you use as a simple text editor on your machine, and Save As the file onto your local machine with the title index.html Make sure the file name ends with .html and not .html.txt <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> <title>My Website</title> </head> <body> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <h1 align="center">Site Under Construction</h1> </body> </html> Copy your index.html file to your .com account root directory. Before you do that, replace the text My Website with whatever title you need for your website. From there on, while your site visitors are oblivious to what you're doing behind the scenes because they cannot get past your index.html page, you may wish to install Wordpress or establish a forum similar to this one. thanks for that, i understood most where is my account root directory to upload that notepad file to?
The so-called root directory is the first directory you see when you fire up your .com domain's file manager.
I have been using google sites to host my online music collaboration projects, but you could easily adapt it to do just about anything you want and it is free.
@samsome Might one be so bold as to ask with whom did you decide to place your .com url? Is it a freebie such as the one used by @kooper, or maybe a Wix account? Don't worry. I will not to try to hack your website. I have dozens of my own that are more than enough to keep me very busy 24/7/365.
you just want to showcase yu music without sales? Just embedd a soundcloud, hearthisat player. I pay 1,50 Euro / month for a domain + hosting / email Last edited: Jun 7, 2020
I am guessing that you now have hosting, as a domain name isn't necessarily attached to content. You should explore what scripting languages are available to you from you particular host and be careful if you want to handle your own sales and payment processing you can do it for free, the question is do you want to wade into those dark and murky waters and if you do can you handle it properly? In my opinion the best thing to do would be just start with an embedded player as @Moonlight suggested and build enough knowledge about basic web servers, hypertext and xml formats so that you can at least understand the language and start to understand the challenge you are setting yourself. It can be done and if you have an aptitude for it can be done very well for nothing or almost nothing, just like making and mixing music it has its own ins and outs.
If you want I can build a site for you...for free of course. Just supply me your logo (if you have one) images, infos...
Just tried it , you can even embedd a bandcamp player. And if someone click teh buy button he get redirected to youir bandcamp page. cool!
Thanks DarthVader, and for offer DIabulus :D i was searching in godaddy to see how to import the notepad thing, and i noticed i had a promotional offer I had a one page free from Go daddy website builder and i used that!!! it did the job for now! i assume its free forever........:P thanks guys!!
You are most welcome, @samsome Great to see you on a path towards making a piece of html heaven work for you. Handing this baby over to you, @Diabulus in Musica Meezout.
I wouldn't venture into processing payments on a site administered as a sole proprietor-style thing ... Way too many security issues if you aren't exceptionally 1337 lol.. But seriously...you gotta be relatively skilled to pull a all-in-one solution.
take the offer of diabulus....smartest thing to do...you will also learn a lot and save a lot of time when you run with a professor and you wont get better offer for free , never
You want to be able to make money selling things. And yet you're looking for someone to help you make money - for free. Building customized e-commerce websites is a valuable skill that not many people will just give away. For people who don't care about a solution designed for their exact needs and neatly integrated, there are platforms such as Shopify. There are tools for making your own stores (like WooCommerce plugin for WordPress), but instead of paying with money, you pay with a lot of your time. That said, you better decide what you want to sell because if it's music and t-shirts you can be pretty sure you won't get a single sale in 5 years if you don't have live shows already. This is not the way to make a living doing music - and for showcase, it's pretty much Spotify/iTunes/YouTube these days since these have been the preferred platforms for music discovery for quite some time. Setting up a website might be nice if you want to look for TV/film composing jobs, so you can have a landing page for people who got your card. But for anything else, I'd say you'll probably end up not using the site at all.
