LOOPS - What kind of loops you use mostly? do you feel like its cheating?

 

I thought the same until I remembered why I started to use virtual instruments and effects like ten years ago.
I only wanted to make guitar tracks. Drums, bass, orchestra, some choirs... I'd use loops for them if they fit in my guitar track. At least until I finish a damn track ;)

Of course I wouldn't use them for what I want to make, guitars.
PS: and I wouldn't try to sell that song. Hobbyist only here.

I use loops to generate ideas . . . create a foundation . . . and then swap them out with the real deal.

 

I feel like it's in vain. So much time lost for nothing. Don't even dare to dream of a sustainable success with loops. It's hard already for those who have real skills. But to each their own, so look for Vengeance, i remember them being boss a few years ago. If they still are...

I thought using loops was cheating so I programmed my own samples. Then I thought using samples was cheating so I recorded real drums.

I then thought that programming it was cheating so I learnt to play drums for real. I then thought using bought drums was cheating so I learnt to make my own.

I then thought that using premade skins was cheating so I killed a goat and skinned it. I then thought that that was cheating too, so I grew my own goat from a baby goat. I also think that is cheating but I'm not sure where to go from here. I havent made any music lately, what with the goat farming and all.

 

I don't think it is cheating.. I mean I use a software and synthesizers and other instruments i didn't make. I don't play the violin so if i want to have one in my music, i either have to find someone who does or i use a sample library. I don't play the drums either though..
That said, I mostly don't end up using drum loops anyways, because most loops are not recorded dry but with a lot of effects . If you end up taking parts of 3 different loops, you have 3 different reverbs and 4 delays and whatever else. It just tends to get really messy.

I do think it is nice to just try out a few loops and build the basic groove. After that I end up converting it to midi and using the samples I like most of the time anyways. Doing that ensures that I can build some variations and i don't have to worry about mixing together all kinds of different spaces.

I can build a groove from the very start, but it will take a lot more time in general, so if saving time is cheating, I am up for it.

If you really do use loops a lot a plugin like Regroover will be helpful too because it will separate the different parts of a loop without you having to cut them up by hand.

What i also like is to tap a beat with 1 or more fingers on the table and record that. It is easier and more accurate than using pads or keys on the keyboard, at least for me.
