I've been working on a track recently :


Do you think a major artist would wannna do this if the demo was presented to him ?

 

I will give my honest truth.
Your vocal is really good, if a little held back, i think she could do a tiny bit better, more excitement in places, She has a cute voice reminds me of Lykke Li, I think she could make it with this vocal.
Now the song is ok, i think it's good enough for an album track for a major artist. First thoughts where Dua Lipa or Sophie Elis Bextor.
Now production.. hmm, that's the weakest part, There is an amateur-feel about it or worse, it's dated, like something from the late 90s.
Its not cool enough, LIsten to the new Dua Lipa album, that's what you want it to sound like. BUT!!! and here it is, its a pretty good effort, well on the way to getting that Nu Disco sound,
I think the main problem is the Kick and the Snare, they just sound lame. Electric Guitar is ok. The bass is too baggy, but the notation is great.
The synth hook is an example of something dated, it's like Kylie from 1994, Piano is fine, again this vocal is lovely. But i would say you need lots of backing vocals, overdubs double tracks, building up a massive vocal thickness, with harmonies also.

@bele nice track. Thanks for sharing it with all of us. As to your question, there is no one here that can say with 100% certainty "yes' or "no" That is for you to find out. @ampworks said a couple of things that I agreed with, however, an artist, or a manager or the A&R executive (if any), will not be looking at those imperfections. You are selling an idea, for the artist, producer, to expand upon.

 

Its not really true anymore Pirate, these days they want the whole thing done and ready, this has been going on for years, right back to Brittney Spears Toxic, they just put their vocal on top, they even keep backing vocals from the demo.
Its all about the new hooky sound, not the song, the song comes 2nd these days, they want current sounds in a demo, they could forgive a less than perfect vocal but the production needs to be top-notch, there is no excuse now with people writing tracks on a laptop 1 mile high over the pacific to LA.

 

A major artist? Major artists have a whole team behind them. How are you going to by pass them? The artist, the producer, the manager, the label, and executives, want control over everything. The exception is when the track comes from a big name producer. In those cases, they are selling the producer/ songwriter as much as the artist. Therefore, nothing less than release ready is expected, and demanded. Let us be clear here, placing a track with a major artist is not easily done. Expecting to be credited as a songwriter, producer, and engineer, for a major artist without you having a proven track record, while not impossible, is extremely hard. And if you are given a chance, 99.9% of the time, regardless of how good your song is, how good your mix is, they will rework it, in order to justify taking a piece out of your pie. The example that you used ratifies what I said. The people behind Toxic had some chart hits prior to working with Britney Spear. If I were the OP, I would try to pitch it as "a song" rather than a track. To be clear, I am talking about 'major artist" because that is what the OP mentioned. If the OP, simply wants to place his track with an artist from a dance label, having you making it better certainly will help him.

Can A Producer Be Considered an artist ?

I have seen a big name producer saying that producer are not artist , I feel offended, when i'm producing a song for me or anyone else I feel so important and a fundamental piece of the whole song, i'm the one guiding the singer placing every song , hearing ideas in my mind like i was Vincent van Gogh painting.

You need to ask yourself whether you want to make a career as a songwriter, as a producer or both.That should be the starting point, and therefore, you should concentrate on it.

 

In my opinion, as a song it is a very nice, catchy, sweet and interesting work.
But, if by major artist you mean mainstream pop or dance music, it is far from it in terms of production, structure and mixing. You must dive deep into the genre you want to get in, understand its production philosophies and so on.

About your question, who knows? What is probable though is that they would have to change the structure and the production in order to suit current mainstream and I think it's always good to send something that sounds impressive to them already.

If you want to send songs, piano and voice can be enough. When you send a full production it is more restrictive in my opinion. Do you have a clear direction about what is it that you are asking from the major artist to do with it?

You can start listening to a lot of music from the genre you're aiming at and also find production tutorials on it from producers with some professional success. I hope this helps!

 

I like it a lot. The retro funky house will NEVER sound dated and i strongly disagree with whoever said so. This is a classic sound and style approach and classic will never be dated unlike tracks that rely on cutting edge sounds and will be forgotten after a couple of months.
The arrangement lets the vocal breathe, it is sweet and smooth with some uplifting chorus parts. Overall you did very well imho.
Like my well respected friend @The Pirate said, it's just a matter of luck if someone important hears this. Try to pitch it to as many as you can but it always works best if you can picture who would sing this so it becomes a hit and pitch it directly towards them

@wavyj i don't think you have more chances with a piano + voice track. Even if the production is not perfect, it still helps you hear the potential of the song.
