Hey guys, hope your fine and safe... I'm currently without monitors and I'm trying to get my way with headphones to produce and mix, I do have a nice headphone (Sennheiser HD650), but I want to step up and have a more reliable option to make the output sound as good as possible on other systems.

I'm currently using Sonarworks Reference to even out the frequency spectrum but I am looking for some crossfeed plugin like Can Opener Studio (GoodHertz) or some acoustic simulation like Abbey Road Studio 3 or Waves NX (both by Waves). These are just some examples, probably there are even better alternatives out there, so I'm really up for your recomendations and reviews on some of these kind of plugins.

The basic Idea is have a good setup to make more reliable mix decisions on headphones.

    Thanks in advance guys :)

Ps. Sorry if I post in the wrong place

Honestly, when I'm in this situation, since I actually know my headphones pretty well I just try and do the best mix I can. Then to check how it translates to other systems I... take it around and listen on other systems. I think you'll get more from that then a lot of attempts to simulate stuff in the cans, as it were. YMMV.

Honestly nothing beats knowing your headphones well and referencing other tracks you know sound good , it has limitations but you can get good mixes out of it

Thanks for your answers guys, I really appreciate it. Probably i'm just not being confident enough cause I'm too worried on how my decisions are going to translate on other systems and forget to just make it "translate well" to my system. But still, if someone have a good recomendation to help check the mix on headphones and give another perspective it's welcome, I'm aways trying to improve my final output.

    Thanks again guys

Know your headphones and use a crossfeed plugin. Use Something like canopener from goodhertz or waves Abbeyroad studio 3 which you already do.
In my opinion abbey road studio 3 is really an amazing plugin. I was really surprised as I tried it. The best out there at the moment when it comes to crossfeed/speaker simulations on headphones. Do not search any longer you won't find a better one.

But you could try 122db redline monitor or isone toonboster.

And bluecataudio has announced something. It is called re-head or something.

    Edit
oh and there was a Russian software company that was advertising something here in the forum round about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Maybe someone knows the name. It was something like abbey road studio 3 but some kind of studio in Moscow I think.

Hey bro, thanks for your reply, I just tried out Abbey Road Studio 3 from waves and even if it sounds interesting I just don't feel like it's reliable cause it changes the sound a lot, specially in the low end. Like, I "feel" the bass pumping a lot more and got myself compensating for it to try to make it more steady, then it got kinda weakier without the plugin. Maybe I just don't have figured out how to use it. Will try the can opener studio though, even Sonarworks recommend it to complement their program. If I like it I get back here to tell my experience with it. :)

You need to get used to it. It is not ruler flat it tries to sound like a good room (Which is never ruler flat). Like abbey road waves claims. But it has definitely the best soundstage and most speaker-like soundstage of all plugins out there at the moment. If you do that head measurement thing (and your headphones are in the correction list). That is probably because of the room simulation. The middle of the stereo field is in mid and the volume of the side/mid translates pretty impressively to speakers. Something that does not work very well with my second favourite canopener. The mid is always to quiet like 3-4 db and the bass of canopener is 2 db louder if you turn it on and off.

Well, whatever works for you! The best are in my opinion at the moment canopener and studio 3. The rest is meh. Compared with these 2.
