    Hi guys,

So, I got the new computer and installed fresh Windows 10 on it.
I do have original Ableton Live and Studio one. Some Waves plugins as well.
I tried to install several Waves versions from Audioz (R2R, a new VR) with ZERO success. Live instantly crashes when I open it up. Studio one is not seeing Waves plugins as well.
My question is - is there something Windows 10 related that I don't have installed in order to run Waves properly? I installed C++ Redistributable and Quicktime. Couldn't think of anything else.
Please advice what should I do!? I'm desperate.

Is there a version of Waves that installed recently on Windows that works for you? Please, point me to that thread.

    Thanks a ton!

It sounds like that u have to authorize the plugins/dlls or move them in the appropriate folders/locations. Read the installation manual. Sometimes I do also forgot a step while installing something and wonder later why it crashes ;)

Thanks Alpha, but I'm pretty sure I did everything right. I'm not a noob, doing this for 20 years.
R2R release (with the emulator) only has an .exe file. No patch, or something. So, it should be pretty straight forward. Also, worked perfectly on my older machine. Really strange...

To me it sounds like you have old WaveShell in your plugin folder. Try and uninstall Waves, and then manually delete WaveShell in plugin folder and manually delete the waves folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Waves
    C:\ProgramData\Waves Audio

Also add these to your host file just in case. I don't remember if that is necessary:
    127.0.0.1 www.r2rdownload.com

    127.0.0.1 www.elephantafiles.com

    127.0.0.1 www.r2rdownload.net

    Then reinstall

    Thanks Daskeladden,

I definitely cleaned up all those folders. More than once. Checked EVERYTHING! The registry, Roaming folder, (Hidden) Program Data, all VST folders (32bit, 64bit, Avid)...
Everything is clean and I start fresh install. No luck.

I don't really understand what you mean by "add these to your host file". Can you please explain, how do I do that?

    Thanks!

add those three addresses with space between to the host file located here (look at screenshot):
    c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts

I usually copy host file to desktop open as admin then change it and then copy and overwrite the old one.

But like I said I don't know if that is the issue

Okay then it's not your Waves version. I suspect that you installed a new version over your old without uninstalling the old one first, and there is some kind of conflict in the register files. If you remember the correct version of your old Waves version then try and install that again and do a uninstall again.

Also try and reset Ableton like this:
    https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209070609-How-to-reset-Live
Could be some conflict in Ableton plugin handling. Remember to turn of updates in preferences after reset.

Also if you see any other folder than 10.1.13 here:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Ableton
Delete all folder versions except 10.1.13

Another thing you can try is to use something called regscanner and delete everything from Waves (Find strings). Uninstall and delete everything you find of Waves before you use it. I think you have to search and delete multiple times until it does not find anything.

    Find regscanner 64 bit here:
    https://www.nirsoft.net/x64_download_package.html

But beware changing/deleting register files is always a risk so backup before trying is a must.

I did that as well. It was R2R version with an emulator. That version as well crashed Live.
I installed C++ Redistributable, all versions. that didn't help. I can't think of anything else. What in hell... :(

did you try to reset Ableton and delete the folders as described in post over? Reset is a different thing than reinstalling. Of course since Studio One can't see Waves at all it is probably something else, but worth a try to get it to work at least in Ableton. Could be that both DAW's need to reset to get the Waves to work properly

By the way here is how my Waveshell look like in the plugin folder when hovering over one of them:

Thanks Daskeladden. I tried all of those things and none them worked. Even deleleted registries with regscanner.
After installing VR (one of the latest) version of Waves, and after reseting Live - Live started normaly, but after starting to scan VST2 folder, it crashed when it got to Waves. I made sure to manually copy all the files from PATCH folder to Waves' MODULES. Did that with Administrative rights... No luck. Thank you again for trying to help!

hmm strange. Maybe the Pirate can help you.
Have you tried to pull your online cable and disabling antivirus?
Also have you tried and moved the waveshell's from plugin folder VST2, and tried the VST3 version of Waves in Ableton?
