Not such gore considering that the strings at the time were made of animal intestines and not of metal as western guitars are today. The older instruments were more lightly constructed and cannot withstand the between 140-180 pound of pressure of the steel core modern string. The top's of the antique guitars are thinner with bracing that would cave under duress of even light guage strings of today. People do convert then in order to use modern metal strings, however these much lighter strings are made specifically for these more fragile instruments.

Billy might have had a callous on his knob and was used to the lingal abuse. Maud might have been maudlin about Billy playing in his special way and insisted that he do so to prove his unending love for her and to remind herself of their first, musical date.

A Telecaster is very versatile as a workhorse guitar, and it can cover lots of different genre. I added the Les Paul as I was doing two-part guitar arrangements, and the Humbuckers give you a different tone. I use the Tele mostly for rhythm, and the LP for lead & embelishments, plus doubling up on the chorus. It's not set in stone though, and sometimes I use the LP for heavier riffs. You are right about the P-bass though, they are awesome, and it's probably my favourite guitar to play

Yeah I have a similar setup in mind, Tele for rhythm/chords, Toronado (or other Humbucker Guitar) for leads. But sometimes I will switch, or use only one guitar ect... The Mustang or Jaguar are really nice for rhythm, especially with out of phase sound, but not for every genre, the sound is a little special, and they are shortscales... Maybe not so good for alternative tunings... But I like alternative tunings, so I hope the tele is finished soon, it's really good for that because of the longer scale.

I want to make music like pavement in the future, and they had really weird tunings. It's a little cumbersome to practise their songs, because you allways need to change the tuning.

Do you like the Jazz-Bass? Never really played one, but there are many people who prefer them, too.

Don't know, it wasn't a really cheap guitar, I think it costed something like 800 DM (4-500€ I think...) But it would be most likely still too expensive for this guitar...

    I prefer a Jazz to a P-bass myself. As does Geddy... ;-)

I think I really need 2 basses, when you like both flat and roundwounds it's a little bad if you have only have one bass...

This is true... get ya a Hofner! (or a good copy). Ricks are cool with flatwounds too.

Honestly, my favorite bass tones come from Gibson basses. Grabbers, Rippers, the Thunderbird... but they're so damn ugly, and they weigh a million pounds and hang all weird. I also like Music Mans a lot.

Yeah I'm really interested in a Epiphone Thunderbird, but it looks unergonomic as fuck xD
Yeah the Charvel Desolation Series is really nice, and not too expensive used...
