    Please, i need help
i have many click and crackle when use VSTi. With a song with only 1 track and 1 VSTi i have continuosly click and cracle and pop & noise. Last time with Arturia Buchla and ML Real Guitar.
    My specs are
    - Mainboard PC ASUS PRIME Z390-A
    - CPU Intel i9 9900K
    - RAM 64 GB
    - C Drive: SSD M.2 PCIe NVMe Samsung 970 EVO 500GB
    - 2 x 2TB Western Digtal Black 3.5” SATA3GB\s e 6GB\s . cache 64GB
    - RAM 64 GB (4x16GB): DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LPX 2133 MHz
    - tp-link mini wireless N USB 2.0 Adapter 300 Mbps TL-WN823N (ieee 802.11b/g/h)
    - Midi\USB Keyboard M-Audio Axiom (1st generation) on USB 3.0 or 3.1 (Axiom is USB 2, i think)
    - RME Babyface Pro FS (linked to USB 3.0 or 3.1 port)
    - DAW Studio One (from sister site)
    - OS Windows 10 Pro (updated to latest build)
When i play i disable WiFi and Antivirus.
I did not make any intervention on the configuration of the operating system because i believed that mine was not a bad system and I thought that with it I would have no problems.
Please help me. Did I miss my purchases? Was my money thrown away? I threw my savings? Some advice?

Start with turning up the buffer size on your audio interface ("Fireface USB settings").
What's the buffer currently set at?

I have the RME Babyface Pro.

I'm already at 512 samples @ 48 Hz (i I have to check the other values eg WDM devices) ...
it is possible there is some problem with Axiom 1st Gen and USB 3? But the keyboard is regularly recognized by os ...

Have you set your BIOS settings for optimised DAW performance?:

    1. When you first power-up the PC, hit the delete key until you enter BIOS.
    2. Make sure you're in 'Advanced Mode' (hit the F7 function key).
    3. Locate the 'CPU Power Management' screen - which on my Asus motherboard is found under: Advanced --> CPU configuration --> CPU Power Management. On that screen, make sure the following are set like this:
    Intel (Enhanced) Speedstep = DISABLED
    Turbo Mode = ENABLED
    Automonous Core C-State = DISABLED
Intel Speed Shift Technology = DISABLED

If you haven't done so already i also recommend you disable the built-in audio chip - which should be under: Advanced --> Onboard Devices Configuration --> HD Audio Controller = DISABLED.

    4. Save the BIOS settings and reboot into windows.

The above BIOS corrections will improve DAW performance, guaranteed! :)

Obviously, don't run your a/d converter from a usb hub!....

no it will not. Some of these advises should not be done on the 9900k. Some of these advises are for old CPU's and systems.

Update bios is however important. Also turn on power plan to high performance. If you have Nvidia graphic card change to Prefer Maximum Performance.

I'd be most interested to hear why, 'cos Steinberg's current advice for optimising windows 10 for DAWs also recommends it.

Interestingly they make the following observation about BIOS updates:

"We have had reports on poor performance on even high-end systems like an Intel Core i9.

It turned out that the mainboard and a specific UEFI BIOS version had issues with memory performance and the manufacturer suggested to roll back to an older BIOS version which resolved the issue. As mentioned earlier on, BIOS updates are important but in rare cases, it is worth taking a closer look at the version history or even online discussions in the communities."

Looks fine to me. What does the "main" tab say?

Maybe it's some BIOS setting, as previously stated. I hope you get it sorted.

Thanks for answers, today I will try to follow some of these tips.
I have not touched neither the os nor bios but these are updated.
I have not video board, i use the integrated one.
It is bitter to know that updating on relatively new systems is worse.
The performance on an old 32-bit XP Pro, cpu Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550, mainboard an old MSI P45C-Neo and 4 GB RAM DDR2 (but fine tuned in bios and os) was better and clean.
    Ironic.
I think to install bios update on this mainboard require a particular procedure by opening the case.

I'm still waiting for @adrian to post the results though.

    Exactly my point.
Impossible for problem to be related to a device which has nothing to do with audio, only MIDI.

Sorry but i needed some time, LatencyMon does not identify any problem but perhaps i have solved it with some interventions in the Bios and on the operating system following various online guides.
In the Bios i have disabled on board Realtek audio (I thought it wasn't necessary because i still went through the Babyface but it was not so), disabled Intel LAN Controller, Serial Port, USB Power Delivery in Soft Off State (S5) and "LED Lighting When system is in working state" moved on "Aura Off", disabled Flash Card reader\writer that appeared as a drive . I have solved also previous problem with Babyface leds always on when pc when it was off (i was forced to turn off even from power supply button).
Hyper Threading remains enabled, i don't touched this currently.
In the OS various i did common settings as uninstalled some app (Firefox Mozilla, Groove Music player, and stop or little else), disabled many background apps, modified power settings on pc, modified power setting also on hd and usb roots from Manage Devices, disabled indexing files on hd, disabled notifications and actions, and something else (many of the things found in common daw optimization information).
For now as i write here online and with windows defender and firewall active, the Studio One song with ML Real Guitar and Arturia Buchla flows well, but they are always at 512 samples.
I hope nothing happens and that disabling WiFi, Defender and Firewall can lower the latency samples buffer.
Above all, i hope not to have combined future disasters because i don't remember everything I did.
But i thought that with the new system i would leave the XP settings behind. I was wrong.
But given your patience i insist on asking for an opinion, it would help me.
I still have some doubts with the Hyper Threading setting, with that of sharing the RAM with the integrated video (sharing is 3 to 30 GB about) and with the RAM that is a lot (64 GB) but at 2133 MHz.
    Disable hyper threading?
I buy a video card with own memory and which one?
I change the RAM with one similar to @3200 MHz and which one?
Thanks for your help .... i'm afraid i'll be back.
