Right guys, hope you're all staying safe during this time, I need help trying to find a particular word I learned and forgot a long time ago.

It's definition is essentially: Someone who thinks that because something costs more, or is from a particular brand, it is 'better' than anything less expensive. This isn't always the case of course (I'm thinking $10,000 eqs)

I know some of you are going to joke with answers like 'snob' or 'asshole' and what not, but I specifically remember there being a word or phrase that describes this (it may even be a term used in marketing).

If anyone knows the term could you please let me know. It's such a good word...Or is it a phrase...I can't remember for the life of me...HELP!

(P.S This is not a joke it's a genuine question)

It's called (marketing) prestige pricing, also placebo pricing as someone else said. As a logical fallacy it's argumentum ad crumenam.

Can't think of a specific word but poser, materialistic, superiority complex spring to mind.

 

"Brand whore" or "label whore" is sometimes heard. Luxury things for which demand increases as the price increases are called "Veblen goods", after some philosopher or econometrist (or ophtalmologist, considering how pricey new goggles get these days).
