Been trying to find the ROMpler source of this particular synbrass sound off and on for a few years now. It shows up in highly downgraded form all throughout the Super NES Mario Kart soundtrack with the best example here:

I think it's also used in the Valkyrie Profile soundtrack for PS1.

It's got a certain PU-WOW sound to it that sounds especially unique when bent up and down like it is in these soundtracks. I absolutely cannot find where or what unit it comes from. It's not in any of the widely used Roland and Korg stuff and it would've had to exist as far back as 1991 or 1992 when Super Mario Kart first came out.

Any other ROMpler experts know anything on this?

    Thank you!

I've known about that list for a while now and there's no starting point in it.

Try Impact Soundworks Super Audio Cart! https://impactsoundworks.com/product/super-audio-cart/

I found a contender, that if tweeked, should work:

EDIT: Nevermind, I forgot to put my glasses on. I swear I saw "SYNTH BASS" and not "Synth Brass". WOW, ok, scratch that, but try Super Audio Cart anyway LMAO

Unfortunately, I am the one person on Earth who will not ever use Super Audio Cart. I know and have known many of the people who are with and have been with Impact Soundworks and with the exception of Zircon, I have feuded or had issues with all of them. In particular, the guy behind Super Audio Cart (who I think is N. Ansari, not Zircon) not only does not like me, but he went to lengths to make other people in the Ocremix believe I am an inferior person who should be at the bottom of some sort of pecking order. He spoke, and probably still does, about me with an inherent inferiority, you know the type. By December, I had started to have a new clinical depressive episode and I privately asked Ansari to stop it because I was getting sick and not able to emotionally handle it at that time. He continued on for 3 months and culminated it by telling people that I USE MY DEAD CHILD AS SOME FORM OF SOCIAL CURRENCY.

Finally, I complained to the Ocremix moderators and they only gave him a warning. But he still continued to talk about me to others, privately and in public like I was a willful idiot, lunatic, liar and sexual predator and all this other shit to make others get a collectively low opinion of me. I confronted him on Discord, publicly, but not only was he non-apologetic, he reveled in it and mocked me. I went back to the main moderator, who just happens to be Ansari's brother, to see if something could be done. Welp, not only did he get no further punishment, but I'M THE ONE who banned from ever using the OCR discord again. Holy shit. And this guy isn't just some punkass troll right out of high school, he otherwise tries to put up an image of himself as a major audio professional and industry businessman. It's analogous to like working for Spectrasonic in 2000 and having Eric fucking Persing tell everyone at the company that everyone thinks [X person] is a loser, probably a rapist, and makes up shit that he's an absolutely horrible person because he uses his dead child to get sympathy and fake respect from people, then [X person] goes to complain about this unprovoked indirect harassment while having a major sickness episode and then not only being told there's nothing they can do about it but getting fired from Spectrasonic as well for bringing it up at all.

And why? All because Ansari thought my brand of then-humor on Discord was "annoying". That's it. That's the entire reason for all of that.

So no, I won't be buying anything Impact Soundworks anymore. It's possible I'd pirate shit from them, but I'm still too horrified and disgusted with how that turned out (and being a 36-year-old autistic adult, I'm used to being bullied everywhere) to even think of using their products and I didn't want to insult Zircon who I've had a decent acquaintanceship with.

Funny you should mention Eric Persing as it reminds me of the Roland D50 -"A15 - Horn Section" preset.

I just like to get that story out whenever I have the opportunity, the main thing is I'm still looking for this wank Synth Brass or whatever it is.

I did have a look through the D-50 sounds and couldn't put it in there. Next chance I get, I'm going to try the Korg M1 Legacy collection I have, it only now occurred to me that it kinda sounds like the weird distorted electric guitars that are in there.

It would take longer to correct everything that's wrong there than it's worth. Moving on.

Working in Korg M1, I relinquish my previous thinking that it didn't come from the M1 as I hear more than a few brass instruments that sound REALLY close to it (specifically "Chin-Brass) without actually hearing it yet. I suspect it does come from the M1 but that Soyo Oka or whoever provided her the samples possibly made their own combi or worked with one the basic waveforms/samples to customize it before chopping it down to fit the SNES. I notice their brass instrument used throughout the soundtrack has some issues, like too much reverb and the sample loops not set smoothly so you can hear kind of a "rattle" when it plays higher notes.

Possibly the Combis "4 Voices/03" or "Syn Chiff".

That might be all I can do there, but I'll leave this up for any further development for anyone else interested in it.
