Hello AS's dear and lovable members!

Today I want to bring up one of the most important issues in music.

    Making music requires 3 things:
    1. Tools
    2. Experience
    3. Music science
The first two are almost available to everyone, even for free. But the third option is not easily available. All the great composers of the world have been equipped with the third option. The third option is something without which it is not possible to make great and magnificent works.

One problem with accessing the third option is that it is very complicated. Its complexity is mainly due to two factors. One is that it is not easy to learn and the other is that it is not easy to implement. Even fully practical training resources are not available to developers and are usually obtained by trial and error.

Without the right view of music, as well as the lack of access to the third option, one cannot expect great works to be created. This is an undeniable fact, and those who have wanted to hide it, have failed.

People who hide complex facts usually seek to make simple types of music and close their ears and not listen to anyone else. They think that the first two options will save them, and they find themselves without the need for procuring the complex principles, but what a fertile imagination.

    1. Now, in spite of all these different issues, how can one master the complex principles of music?
    2. Unfortunately, most educational systems around the world do not offer the right strategies to get newcomers interested in learning the principles. In the meantime, how can people be taught the conceptions to stop making defective and purposeless works?
    Take care!:mates:

I think 1- is Talent. Something you cannot learn, buy or teach, You have to have it in the first place and without it even if you have the 3 others you'll never gonna be able to stand out.
That's what makes huge differences between artists. Talent is not sufficient in itself, it's better to have 2 and 3 also.
But I don't agree with "1- Tools" cause you can make awesome music without any of them, your voice, an old guitar or piano, a pen.... and again if you have talent, people will get to you and provide you tools (or people) to make your music better
As a famous artist once said to me "there is no hidden talent"

    1. Tools -> unless you call your body a tool, nope, not at all.
    2. Experience -> to a tiny amount, maybe.
    3. Music science -> nope! Tell me in which way natives all over the world were skilled in this for the last several thousand years.

I agree with No Avenger. Experience is not required either. The proof is that in many cases the first albums of an artist are very often his best ones.
And if you have too much "science" you'll get lost into it and loose your primal inspiration.
I think on the contrary that the best way to approach music is to "unlearn" and listen to your instincts (if you have some:rofl:) or your "soul", call it like you want

so my list would be :

1- Talent (you have it or not, to start making anything decent)
2- Instinct/Soul (to take the right decisions in your music)
3- Generosity (will to share with the others to give another dimension to your music)
    (4- Experience, knowledge, blah blah)

Unfortunately none of the three firsts can be learnt or bought, that's what makes the MAGIC of music, which is an ART, not a science

There is no right or wrong, music is a form of expression put into sound.

There's no point in trying to gatekeep what is the right way.

The only constant is that you're willing to work on your own expression, and that's pretty much it. So: whatever works for you.

This is one of these classic debates. I assume you mean music theory.

You can do cool music with little theoretical knowledge, from old Ethnic stuff like Noa said to Nirvana.

But of course you can do better if you know more. At least, potentially.

There is a long good old post in this forum that explain in great details the very secret of music by a music Guru.

To summarize, before you start you need to know the basics, here it is.

    take a simple chord:

    ACEFDBDBEAEDAEB

then reverse subdominant to dominant diminished and get the modal gravity of the Lydian scale, now you have:

    ADEBDEGAEDEBCEA

next there is the simple trick that make you famous and rich, push the tonal gravity power from dominant to tonic:

    ADAEDAEDAGBEDAE

now the hit is ready, if you can't understand this go back to study in the nearest elite music college and never again show your humble opinions on here.

i suppose you have millions of fans all over the world with your magic formula Mr "I know How to Make A HIt"
Total bullshit... I hope you're paid for telling that to your students. Go found a sect with your Guru:knock:
As i already said before, you just forgot ONE thing : music is ART, not a laboratory for mad scientists.
You can sell that crap to ignorants with 0 talent (oh yeah that's very impressive) and they will flood the world with shity music
Don't worry there is a market for this!

your cherry on the cake drove me mad "if you can't understand this go back to study in the nearest elite music college and never again show your humble opinions on here"
WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE??
I thought ego tripping was for rappers and your opinion is everything but HUMBLE

You don't need anything but mimicry to make music. Mockingbirds cop other birds songs as do Thrashers. If a human has the ability to hear something and play it back then it's all over, baby, no theory, no nuthin' need apply! Making music needs no tools outside of oneself and I prove it from sun up to sundown 24/7/365 as I sing every day. Sure, the more we do something, it will have the affect of hopefully building upon older knowledge, but mistakes are a beautiful thing too and we stumble upon amazing self discoveries when we embrace this form of chaos, namely that going in straight lines usually leads to stagnation and by taking the longer scenic route we get to see, hear and feel new experience and use it creatively to break through boundaries that might bind and blind us, tie us down and keep us at bay from ourselves. There's nothing wrong with classical studies if one finds comfort on that path, though there too is a way that can only be found on one's own map and penned in one's autobiographical guidebook.

Most probably have seen this fellow before, but just in case...

"How can people be taught the conceptions to stop making defective and purposeless works?"
Defective and purposeless according to who?
I assume you've nominated yourself to be the ultimate judge with regards to what constitutes as defective.

tools , knowledge , experience all mean nothing when you actually have something to say , they all prepare you to a point in your life when you are ready , you cant make good music without actually feeling something and when you do everything else is blurred the music just comes out without even thinking its a weird feeling , formulated stuff has its place but I dont think music can be taught , you can just steer someone to the right mindset but teaching music is really impossible its too complicated

The OP is alluding to knowing how to make works of music properly. But in art, as has been said above, there is no 'properly'. We have developed formulas that work well, in book writing and movie-making too. Consumers of art expect to be taken on some sort of journey, however long or short. Songs need intros (or do they? Many don't) and so on. In painting the first thing every painter has to make clear is where the light is coming from (or is it....?). But pioneers and rebels will always come along with something new.
