  4. I have Ilok and I hate it.

    15.9%
  5. I have Ilok and it never occurs to me to love or hate it because it works.

    49.2%
  1. There is no love for iLok and I wonder why sometimes. I wanted some plugins a while ago and bought an iLok 2 and it's unobtrusive and never let's me down. My plugins work. So why the hate?

I don't get the hate too, it's (at least on macOS) a way better solution than eLicenser oder Codemeter. I don't have any problems with it :)

i hate the ilok dongle license.
i consider myself a mobile audio worker, im working fully from a laptop and the need to always have a dongle on me is just annoying.
i dont have a problem with simple machine based license, thats fine with me (altho i always think 'what if my computer dies or get stolen with the licenses...)
but the dongle is very annoying, and freaking expensive for what it is!
and the ilok cloud is simply not a professional tool in my opinion, no studio needs to be based on always being online to actually work, thats a freakin joke

no hate but annoyed by having to :
    - pay for a fckn usb key in order to get a software I already bought to work
    - have a free usb port ( not to mention the adapter "because Apple" )

this said, if I have to, I will use it, mainly because I want a solid pro tools system in the future, but I'm considering other options very seriously.

Im sure many apple users complain about the dongle thing with no usb ports on their laptops, that's why I'm proud to announce Ilok 4 now with BLUETOOTH SUPPORT to connect wirelessly! Over 24 hours of battery life on the go! Fully Charges in just 10-15 minutes if plugged into a USB port! You can always decide to plug it in normally as well! Who says chivalry is dead!!????!

Software iLok user with 163 licenses attached to it. Never had an issue.

Two things I wish they change though:
    1. The ability to permanently remove expired demo licenses.
    2. Do away with license transfer fees.

I hate it because most companies only give 2-3 PC licenses (Maybe because of the price of licenses not sure here why they only give so less )

I work normally with 4 PCs here (on for recording stuff for YouTube, one for Audio and Video production , One Laptop and my everyday PC where I test stuff )

So MXXX and Voltage Modular on all of them
But Falcon is only on my Audio PC.
That’s the reason why I hate it.(And of course years of Dongle only )
With the Soft licenses it's a bit better.

First lets get this straight, nobody other than developers likes iLok.
You're either indifferent or hate it.

I personally am indifferent. I have it, its plugged in, I don't think about it.

    Reasons to hate it:
-You have multiple work stations and hate having to move your dongle between them
-You are a pirate and hate that they're not cracked.

I can see one slight glimmer of hope for iLok and that is that its a central location for all licences.
When doing a clean install, it would suck to have to remember all the users and all the passwords for the various plugin developers sites.
Not to mention some licences get lost if you forgot to deregister etc iLok doesnt have this. However this one pro does not make up for all the cons.

What I have understood that Ilok doesnt need internet connection to authorize? if that's so I think its better than any internet solution.

The good thing about ilok is anytime you need to reinstall the process is easier then having to fumble with some of the other download managers. Just install and go, not a fan of how they try to make my ancient green ilok obsolete though

I think you might have missed one out:
(the following rant is not aimed at @MYCbeats or anybody else on this forum, just a personal bugbear).
It's my electricity costs, bandwidth costs, cpu cycles, cost of time spent having to dick about with usb ports and the hogging of one of them that I could usfully use for equipment that I have bought to use for my purposes not theirs, the risk of loss, the ISP costs and the resentment caused by all of the above for the benefit of people I don't know nor care about (possibly in countries I've never even been to nor wish to visit) who are using my resources on my premises in order to check up on me, (for their benefit not mine remember), in case I might have misappropriated some code.
Nobody comes round my gaff asking to see a licence for the software in my hardware synths and other gear, so I just say to iloky folk 'thankyou very much, but your dongle's not for me. I'll give your plugin a miss and move merrily on'.
    :scrapbox:
Where I live, out in the real world baby, there's plenty of ilok-less stuff about, and i'll just keep on keeping those dongley donkeys out of my house, like I would with any other nosey, scrounging backsteward who wants to know what I'm up to in me own little place .
