Ableton since like v4, protools and FL before too.
but abletons PDC sucks so much ass, makes me want to move to Cubase

Ableton is simpler and quicker vs cubase, but these days, how much can you customize and add shortcuts to cubase to make it "almost" as streamlined a workflow as ableton?

cubase v5: this was definitely not possible you see

Have no idea what you're talking about. Used Cubase for many ears (now switched to Studio One), tried using Live once, felt like it's slow and clumsy.
The point is, it's not DAW, it's your habits. And not knowing your habits, it's hard to answer your question. Like, okay, we know the starting point, but what's the desired result? What's fast for you, why is this piece of shDAW fast for you?

You can customize pretty much any key-command in Cubase. You can also do macros, which I'm not sure you can do in Live.
Edit: Not Ableton "macros", but Cubase macros which is a series of tasks.

Dude, you're like, "my automatic transmission car doesn't shift right - the timing of the gears is off" so you want to switch manual transmission - but you don't want to have to shift the gears yourself.

In Reaper you can just make a script that shifts the gears for you.

Thats exactly the kind of answer i was looking for. I get what you mean by key command macros, that could be the extra layer of complexity to facilitate tweaking both daws to execute the same tasks at the same workflow speed

Im going to go demo it again ( i have used v5 and ive seen lots of vids of v9 v10 etc)
hopefully it doesnt reject any plugins i like using

Latest version of Cubase no longer supports 32bit plugins so if thats important to you, you might need to consider using something like jbridge

Yeah, Reaper has some dealbreakers for me too but I'm not really that bothered by the piano roll. What is it about it that you don't like?

its very basic. midi note morphing, velocity meddling etc is not possible/user friendly

as far as looks, it looks the same as Logic v5 on PC

FL studio has the prettiest piano roll imo, not the best to use but close to the top

Bitwig probably has the most modern

Studio one, amazing daw, good piano roll but there is even more missing than if i moved to cubase

RPR V6 JUST introduced MIDI envelopes. That should help.

I'm surprised you all like to edit only in a piano roll. Don't you lot also have an Event Editor in your daw?
As, btw, Logic 5 did too!

Have you ever seen Khabib run scared from Tony Ferguson? Too many times - he's so chicken.

Can't wait til the rematch when Connor punches his face all the way back behind the iron curtain!
